Is this a good price ..

I think the BEST pool to have the best of all worlds is the L shaped pool!

The "foot" is the shallow area with a depth of 4' and ledge at the toes area. This area is for active games like volley ball and Watermelon Ball!.
The "leg" part is the "deep" end. I would do at least 6' deep as that the shallowest you can safely to a cannon ball.

If you can't fit a L shaped pool then for a rectangle pool that is 4' to 6' with a clearly defined are for cannon balls!

So they are excavating now. I've read a lot on line and opinions vary depending on use. We have a 4 yo daughter and sure she'll have friends using pool throughout years.

Not sure if to do a 6' deep end or 8-9 deep end so anyone can dive. My builder did say since I have rectangle pool 34' long is I do a 8-9' deep end I will loose some of the shallow portion and the slope will be severe.
He said the shallow end will be 3' 6".
Any opinions? Thanks.

Ask 100 people and get 100 opinions. Nobody is wrong here. I wanted a swimming pool so I cut the shallow end down to 12 ft long (of my 40). Others want more shallow end. Other others want all shallow end.

The kids will be fish on week 3. They will also happily adapt to anything you put in front of them.

Yes you will hit. I hate it because its uncomfortably akward. It's too shallow to bob/float and too deep to sit. But my fiberglass stairs were 4 ft so I had to go 3.5 ft water height. I didn't want liner over stairs / custom depth because of the dogs. So I accepted a too shallow shallow end, having already hated my old one for 8.5 years. Lol.

What would you do for shallow end? Could I swim in 4'?

4 foot water depth is much better IMO. I believe the above ground pools got it right being a bit taller. They feel way more swim-y and less stand-y than the shallow end of most ingrounds.

Can you still jump(feet first) in a 5' deep pool?
Yes. Cannonball may hit bottom for teens or adults
