Thermistor replacement

I have an ultra temp heat pump that says the actual water temp is the same as the set temp of 104 on the heat pump panel. I was under the impression that this panel was inactive because everything is connected to the Easy Touch automation. Pentair told me to try to replace the thermistor. I can see it looking down from the fan. Is that something I can change or do I need a pool repairman? It looks complicated removing to remove the cover to get to the thermistor. Thanks

This is entirely dependent on your comfort levels with such things. I would not hesitate and am totally comfortable around equipment both inside and out.

It doesn’t look bad to open the panel and replace the thermistor. However, where do I plug the thermistor in? It looks like it goes into the box behind the heat pump control panel. That looks more complicated to remove. Can I splice the wires instead ? Thanks

Remove the panels and follow the yellow wire from the thermistor to the control board.

Route the new wire the same as the old wire.

Note: Do not do anything unless you are 100% sure you can do it safely.

Make sure all breakers are off and verify that there is no power with a multimeter.

Drain the heater before removing the thermistor to avoid water getting into the unit.

Crack open the union to drain.

Perform the following steps to completely drain the heat pump.
1. Turn off the electrical power to the heat pump at the main breaker panel.
2. Shut off the water supply to the heat pump.
3. Disconnect the water inlet and outlet unions located on opposite sides of the heat pump
