I opened my pool late and my winter cover gave it up so I opened the pool with known possible issues, it was cloudy when I fished the cover out of it!

I'm getting a faint chlorine smell which I assume is CC but the FAS test is showing 0 CC. I've only smelt the smell from my pool but much stronger years ago when I was battling something that was eating up CYA and chlorine at a huge rate.

I was going to slam but decided to do an OCLT the fist night and it used 1.5 PPM chlorine (started with 21.5 PPM and ended with 20 PPM) which I thought wasn't bad but was not the SLAM level. The pool's cloudiness did improved greatly yesterday so I thought I'd do another OCLT last night and it used 2.5 PPM - WRONG WAY 😂 (started at 20.5 and ended at 18). I know it is not at SLAM level chlorine but there was a great improvement and seemed not to use a lot of chlorine during the day, in full sun and 3/4 gallon 10% LC brought the level to that 20.5. It will be at SLAM level today, just added 1 gallon of 10% LC.

My question is without CC can I get that smell? If not, any thoughts?

Thanks!

Did you test every last 10ml of pool water ?

People tend to forget that testing is just a momentary snapshot of that small location of the pool. Things mix fairly quickly but you can still easily get different results from different spots. There may have been something going on across from you and the CC burned off before it reached you, but you lightly smelled it on your side.

The only time I smell that smell is when I jump in fully clothed after work, or while doing yard work. Both times i'm pretty gross. If somebody tested the other end of the pool right after I hit the water, they might smell me depleting FC, but not test me.

Interesting way of thinking about this, I didn'tthink of it that way especially since there was no brushing going on at the time. I understand if/when a large disgusting body 🤣😉 gets introduced into the chlorinated water the smell will appear but with the water mixing around for over 24 hours again without brushing and 0 reading it surprised me.

So going forward if/when I smell it I will visualize you jumping in on the other side of the pool, my chlorine getting used up and by the time that water gets to me there may not be any CC! 😁

Thanks for the visual!!👍
