I've owned an AG pool for about 23 years. This has been a strange one for me. First it was my winter cover just wouldn't stay on the water during what I consider mild wind so I had to put jugs of water into the pool. Then the jugs were flipped into the center of the pool by the wind blowing the cover so I had to tie them around the perimeter and that worked mostly. Then we had some rain which was great as it kept the cover down even better. We had light snow, some more light snow and the water rose so I went out to drain the cover - it was a solid block of ice! I waited for a few days of 35+ F days (some even getting to 45+F) to thaw out the ice which in the past has usually melted but NOPE still solid. I have never not been able to drain the cover in the winter after a few warmish days. Come on Spring!

Its all we can do is to adapt with the punches. If anyone here is psychic to know what's coming, please PM me some megaball #s. (Obviously, SUPER TIA :ROFLMAO:).
My favorite part of this time of year is we can see the finish line. When it's wild in October and we have months left....... yeah. Lol. C'mon spring !!!

I'm in NJ as well. I have ice right up to the top of my pool. It has been cold with very few breaks to let the ice melt and be able to get water off of the cover.

This is also the first time in 10 years of using an air pillow under the cover that my air pillow deflated. Next week is supposed to be in the 40s F. I'm hoping I can get out there and get some pumped off.

Of course since it snowed, then rained freezing rain, and then dropped into the 20s last week, my backyard is now an extremely bumpy skating rink (I guess it could have been smooth, but my dog ran around in the 3" of slush we had before it refroze, so I have that going for me)

Hey I'm with you. Going on 5 years with an IG pool in North Carolina. The deck is too narrow for a decent cover so I'm one of ~half of folks around here who keep it open all year. One winter before this one had a thin skim of ice on one morning. That's it. This winter, water was 32F for days. Ice over 1/2 inch thick in the middle. Every morning used a snow shovel to break it up around the edge to be sure the skimmers kept working. (No problems.) The local ag station reported soil temps (4 inches down) at 10F below the 10-year average since early January. Not your normal winter here, either!

That's my plan for next week as well! In years past I've been able to drain the cover at least 3 times during the winter.

I’m curious as to how deep the ice is under my cover. I haven’t been able to drain the cover in quite some time, as it doesn’t get much sun even when it is shining. It’s been a rough stretch the past 1+ weeks. To think it was 67 on 2/1 😂IMG_0397.png
