First time posting but i've been following the methods here for a couple years now and have always had good results, until now.

Two weeks ago today i uncovered my pool and found a dark green, almost black swamp. I've been bringing the pool to slam level (cya 60 so slam level 24) at least 3 times a day since then, every 2 hours on days i don't work, and daily brushing and vacuuming. After 2 days it was a very light green but it hasn't gotten any better after that. It's using about a quart of chlorine a day now to stay at slam level, when i first started it was about 2 gallons a day. I'm wondering if i should keep on with the slam or should i give up on that and drain and refill. It would have cost less if i would have just done that in the beginning.

Welcome to the forum.
If you can drain and refill safely without damaging your liner then do it. The equipment with most above ground pools is not up to the task of quickly clearing a swampy pool.

In the future, you need to either maintain your pool chemistry and cleaning throughout the winter or just drain and refill each year.

The algae you killed is now a large volume of fine solids. You do not show what filter you have, but most Above ground pools systems have tiny sand filters or cartridge filters. They are simply not designed to filter out these solids in a proficient manner. Normally the pump and return systems of those pools also do not provide very good circulation.

you may have issues that I have. my local weather person had shown how some haboob from New Mexico had blown into my area in TN. I had mud on my car a few days after washing it and it rained out, ya MUD! this was the second time that has happened not to mention all the fire ash sky born. the local golf club down the street from me drained their pool and washed out the bottom. I just go for the hope my filter cleans some/backflush, and wait for rain the vacuum out to waste the silt on the bottom. mine has not cleared, think it was algae as slam did not clear it. good luck.
