I have about 1300 sq ft of travertine (plus travertine coping) around our saltwater pool. We have trees that drop all kinds of stuff on the travertine. We sealed ours, and will keep it sealed as necessary to prevent staining from the leaves that fall. Coping was installed well before the deck, and we were planning to seal deck and coping at completion. Fall leaves fell, and before we could remove them, the coping had stains. Getting the stains off was a royal pain. Once removed, we covered the coping with plastic until the build was completed and we could seal the travertine.
Once sealed - the leaves still will "mark" the travertine, but the first heavy rain, and a little sunlight - the stains disappear. IE - they are not hard to remove.
We used two different sealers, one on the light colored travertine deck and another on the darker coping. We used Stonetech Salt Water Resistant Sealer on the deck and Stonetech Enhancer Pro Sealer on the coping - as we wanted to highlight the coping as a border around the pool.
When we redo the sealer for the first time - we will do it all with the Enhancer Pro - as it is much easier to apply. Here is a pic just after we complete the sealing job.
