Howdy.

I never used flocculant in my pool, but I'd like to give it a shot this year. However, after I looked vods on Youtube, I realized that my pool system doesn't have multi-port valve for "Recirculate" or "Waste", and the system uses D.E filter. For my cases, what should I do to prevent water get to filter grids or damage filter grids when running pumps after putting flocculant in and back wash to clean up? Thanks,

Tried to shock and SLAM my pool for a few days, it gets better in first few days, water color turns from green to blue, but it didn't get better and still cloudy in last two days. I watched vods on Youtube about floc, and thought it might be more efficient and get water less cloudy.

Please don't floc. The amount of time and hassle, and the risks, are just not worth it.
How often are you testing and replacing FC? If you can increase the frequency, but no more than every two hours, it will speed the clearing.

This may help too:

+3 on not using FLOC, just good old fashioned chlorine, filtering and patience. Keep in mind it didn't get that way overnight and is not going to be fixed overnight.

I rarely ever post links outside of TFP since there is a lot of craziness out there, but this reddit post is why you do not want to use floc. The part where he talks about the floc causing "godzilla puke" to form on top of the water and not being able to skim it out and resorting to a snowshovel to get it out is pretty entertaining.

Thanks, guys. I'm afraid to use floc as well. I will try to increase the frequency of testing and replacing as suggested. Just LC is not as cheap as before. Really hard to find a good deal in Dallas.

Thanks you so much, JJ. I'm totally with you on "cannot be fixed overnight". Out of curiosity. Where do you get LC recently? Pool Essential from Walmart?

I like Walmart or Pinch a Penny. I have a SWCG but always keep at gallon or so on hand for if I need a quick boost.

Some SLAMs take many days. The key now is maintaining the SLAM until you meet all three exit criteria (no shortcuts).

What's your CYA? What FC did you have before the SLAM?

I’m still waiting for his mom to come clean it up…that name for his robot has me crying 🤣
