As best as I can tell, it's just someone working out of their house who may or may not have a license.
I don't see how going through them would be a good idea.

I don't think that they are a Jandy authorized dealer. Check with Jandy if you want to be sure.Seems to me like that seller is an authorized Jandy rep. Looks like you buy it from them and they have a network of installers that do the install. I would think Jandy would shut them down if not?
What is the California person going to do, call a local Maryland company to do everything?
Why not call the local company directly?
The local company isn't going to care about some random person in California.
Any qualified gas contractor can sell and install any pool heater, including Jandy.
All they need is an account with a pool wholesale supplier. The wholesale supplier sells Jandy, Hayward and Pentair equipment.
They can get an account with a business license.
The installer doesn't need to be a Jandy authorized dealer to buy, sell or install any Jandy equipment.
In any case, in my opinion, it makes absolutely no sense at all to go through a person in California who is probably not licensed and probably not a Jandy authorized dealer.
Both of these things can be verified by asking for proof, which I'm 99.9% sure will not be provided.
They don't have any network of providers that they can subcontract the work to.
Thanks for all the responses. Going to keep searching for someone to install the Jandy so I can use the automation. From what I can tell that's the only brand for which I can use the automation I have.
I have iaqualink. I guess the fireman's switch is an option. Not sure what I am missing with that approach. Will I get temp readings through the automation or does that require the RS485? I assume the heater is the only piece of hardware that has the temp sensors. Do I just set the temp at the heater than just use the fireman's switch to turn on/off and the heater will automatically cycle on/off depending on water temp. What automation do you have?
All automation can control all heaters using the “fireman’s switch”.

Thanks Chris, my question is how does the automation know the water temp? I assumed that was coming from the heater through the RS485. Assume the fireman's switch is just an on/off. If that is the case what is sending the water temp data to the automation? Does the SWG have a water temp sensor?L,
Do not use your RS-485 and use a two conductor cable to hook up to the fireman's switch. Go to the panel on your heater and set to max temp for spa and pool mode. The RS will turn your heater on and off when it measures a differential between pool temp and your setting. Easy, peasy.
Chris
Your automation should already give you temperature readings. Will I get temp readings through the automation or does that require the RS485?
