Jan 2025 IG pool build in Georgia, Sod installed!

So for that retaining wall that will house plantings … you absolutely need to make sure that the contractor applies a good cementitious water barrier BEFORE any tile or veneer or cap is placed on it. Concrete in not water proof and it acts like a sponge and a wick when it is in contact with ground water. Water will flow through the concrete and cause massive amounts of efflorescence on any surface material. It needs a water barrier. Both Laticrete (HydroBan) and UGL (DryLok) make decent products for that purpose. It get mixed on site and painted on to the wall (all sides and top) in 2 coats before any fascia is applied. Skipping that will result in efflorescence at some point right after you hand the pool builder your final check …

Let the cat out, thinking she would stay on the patio. Well she was banging on back door to come in. Looked like a crime scene with the red mud everywhere.

My next cat will be a Pallas’ cat … also known as the Grumpiest Looking Cat -

All underground utilities should be marked before excavation.

Did you not have a marking service do marking of underground utilities?
They were marked. Its not the water feed for the house. Irrigation system is what was hit. Pool builders tell you upfront they are not responsible. It is what it is at this point. I have it marked where they were hit, and will repair it after the deck is poured, and rough grade is done. Basically 2 4ft pieces of pvc, and 4 feet of irrigation wiring need re splicing. Work I can do myself, but didn't expect the drainage out that far in that area. Its all part of the process, still frustrating.

I had 1 zone that should have run right through the dig area, had they all been run to make sense. They left me with 13 cut ends. I was able to match most of them up but still had 3 mystery pipes, maybe a T, or abandoned lines and i ended up throwing in the towel and starting from scratch. The 4 hour trencher rental from HD was $140 ish and worth every penny.

There should be irrigation supply houses by you the same as plumbing and electric and they'll either be cheaper than HD, or have better stuff for the same price. A landscaper buddy let me use his account to get it all wholesale.

Yup, 1 step forward, 2 steps back during a build. I know its worth it at the end. I think its noon, maybe time for a beer. LOL
