Intex intake plunger valve spitting water from knob on top

Filling the pool, water half almost covering output valve. Water is shooting out of the little turn knob on the valve where water goes in to the pump. Not the on/off knob but the little round one I think is maybe for air pressure perhaps. Is that normal while filling? If I turn the filter on, it stops spitting though.

I’ve never seen a plunger valve with that gizmo. Does it rotate?

Did you purchase valve separately or did it come with the pool or the pump?

This was a replacement I bought a few years ago when an old push down plunger style one got damaged. Yeah, it turns and you can completely unscrew it to take it out. I have it as tight as I can. That little black dot on the top is where the water shoots out.

With the filter running you can tell there's air in the line or getting in somehow by the noises it's making, so assuming that's related. But it's pushing water back out into the pool decently. But I gotta keep the filter going so the water doesn't shoot out that black spot :(

Looks like the air inlet valve. It creates a bunch of bubbles in the return jet for some Intex marketing BS. Mine didn’t look quite like that, that one has a hole on top, mine had a slot around it just below the top edge.

Like yours, mine started to leak water when the pump was off. I eventually wrapped it in a strip of gorilla tape to stop the leak.

You could try something like Gorilla tape but with the hole on top it may not work as well as mine. Otherwise squeezing something like silicone caulk into the hole ought to seal it off, but you’d have to drain the water below the return jet and leave it lower for 24 hours as the silicone dries.

A plug would also work but I don’t know what thread size this air inlet valve uses.

Oh wait, you said on the inlet to your pump. I suspect you got the wrong replacement valve and got one with the air inlet meant for the return jet instead of one without?

Basically what you show in your example picture is a super cheap one way valve that sucks air in when water is running and is supposed to seal when the water isn’t running. But it’s a super cheap valve, just a thin flap of rubber on mine, and is easily damaged.

Do you have a picture of your exact valve? Maybe we could help you locate an appropriate replacement.

That picture I posted above with the arrow is the exact one I have. It's hooked up to the side of the pool where it sucks the water in from the hose connected to the skimmer basket. Sorry if I explained it confusingly earlier.
So should I still try to gorilla tape around it and pinch the top together, or go over it so I'm putting the tape parallel to that black dot on top of the little knob?

I'd personally put a strip going over the top. Then maybe wrap a strip around the side like mine to help hold it down? Good thing is it's tape, so you can try it multiple ways.

Also, so a valve with that little know is really only supposed to be used on the end where it shoots water out? The guy at the store never mentioned that when I bought it LOL
With my limited understanding, yes. It's supposed to be at the return jet where water shoots out into the pool. I don't think it's ideal to constantly be sucking air into the pump.

I think your valve is broken or defective. I have the same style and it doesn't leak or shoot out water.

Edit: I just read the whole thread. This valve is supposed to go on the port after the filter, so it's hooked up to the return jet only (water going into the pool).
I really need to read before writing, lol.

I actually have epoxy putty and WaterWeld :) so I want to take some of that and jam it on the top to cover/fill where the water is shooting out, right? Should I do it with the filter running or off? Would you recommend the epoxy putty or WaterWeld?

Ideally I'd like to get 2 new plunger valves at this point but the few local shops are out of them right now, plus I'm not sure how to replace them without getting blasted by water when I unhook them haha. So thinking plugging may be a good stop gap.

Thanks for the advice everybody! Wish that guy at the shop told me that valve was for the other one not the one I needed, maybe he didn't know too.

And yes, Woodstock, it didn't do this last year that's for sure, so guessing maybe something wore out or gave up the ghost while in storage. Too bad they don't make something you could just screw in place of that thing thats solid.

I have been known to jam a plastic bag in, from the inside of the pool, to plug so I can replace fitting on the outside.

I once saw a thread where someone used a perfectly sized potato as a plug. LOL

And use the regular epoxy not that WaterWeld stuff?

So how exactly do you do a plastic bag to block it? Do you unhook the skimmer basket hose and jam the bag into the part sticking out inside the pool the hose hooks to?
