Input on Suction Vacuum Cleaners

50% 5 star reviews on Amazon. That would be a pass for me...generally, you get what you pay for...

This may help...

I’ve done a couple tries with Polaris and Dolphin and looking into something less expensive and lower maintenance, etc.
A mid-priced robot should meet your requirements. I have a Warrior SE (rebadged S200) that cost ~$500 after rebate. Robots clean much better than suction-side cleaners, cost almost nothing to operate, and won't prematurely clog your filter.

What maintenance has been needed? Aside from cleaning the debris basket, I don't perform any maintenance on my robot.

The EVO has good reviews:

If you really want a suction-side cleaner, look at The Pool Cleaner / Poolvergnuegen:

Hey Gang. I’ve done a couple tries with Polaris and Dolphin and looking into something less expensive and lower maintenance, etc.
Any input or experience with using a suction cleaner, like this one ?

Thanks much!
It would probably work fine right up until it didn't and then who will repair it? Where would you get parts? Do they interchange with the major brands that look like that?
On the plus side it is cheap and seems to come with an extra diaphragm, the part that makes it move.

Take a look at the Hayward Navigator. A lot of pool guys got cold on them years ago, I was one of them.
But the parts are much more durable than before. I have been dealing with this cleaner since they were built by Arneson (then sold under the name Pool Vac).
I have a customer who got 5 years out of one, with an $80 fix at about 4 years. Not too impressive until you know that the cleaner was in operation 12 hours a day, 365. I replaced it with the same about a year and a half ago.
They sell for about $350.
