It's always been quite loose, but I'd always just shut the pump off and insert it back in. I'm guessing it's time to replace the fitting itself, but I don't even know what brand fitting the jets are (the pool is over 20+ years old)
"Eyeball" fitting keeps popping out. How do I approach this?

I would try roughing up the sides of the eyeball with sandpaper to give it some friction.
