I finally got my pool clear. Bought a new swg arriving tomorrow. Put the salt in tonight and smell something awful. My husband informs me a diesel can spilled on way home from lowes and got diesel on bags. Bags had sat back of truck for a week or more in this diesel. So... some must of absorbed into the salt. I can see a bit of oily film floating around. The pool now smells of diesel. The salt is still dissolving so i suspect there will be more. Is this a just wait for filter to sort it out situation or do i have to start over?
Im heartbroken. I've worked so hard.

Look up Pig Mats. I have a box of them in my garage at all times. There are ones that specifically will absorb only oil.

You can also put a cloth (T-shirt you don't care about throwing away) in the skimmer to help absorb it. Just make sure the water is flowing through it so the pump does not go dry. This will work until you can get your hands of the real things like shared above.

I dont see or smell anything now. I shut pump off last night/. Could it have been so little that its already gone? The salt was in plastic bags so im not sure how much actually soaked in

Just for giggles, when the sun is high shut the pump off for an hour or so. While it's off wipe down everything in and around the skimmer and pump basket. Give the filter a good cleaning. When everything's up and running again put your SWG on 100% power.
