Hi, I have a Purex Triton CC420P DE cartridge filter. I am recharging it for the first time and trying to figure out how much DE needs to go in it. The filter itself says the filter area is 420(!) square feet which seems like a lot for 4 ~2.5’ tall cartridge filters.

I saw another post saying cartridge filters don’t need DE. The previous owner would put some in - so I’m confused.

Photos of filters pre cleaning attached for reference.

Can someone help me figure out how much DE (if any) I should be adding to my filter?

Thanks in advance!

Upon more research, I think it does not need DE which is additionally supported by the filter not having a backwash valve to operate.

I’d love a second and third opinion, but will plan to go with that until I hear otherwise.

Thanks!

That's a cartridge filter, not D.E. It is now made by Pentair. If a filter is struggling to clear algae, a handful or two of D.E. can be added through the skimmer with the pump running to help it clear faster. It gets removed at the next cleaning. Otherwise none is ever needed (and usually not even then if one is patient).
