Hey everyone
I bought a house last year, that had a 20 x 40‘ inground, oval pool, with a vinyl liner. The pool was built about 10 years ago and has always been maintained as a bromine pool. (I’m just outside of Philadelphia PA so I know bromine is not ideal).

I am going through a 50 pound bucket of bromine tabs, every month. I currently use pool life bromine advance, which is around $400 for 50 pounds (and is 141% avail bromine and 62.8 avail Chlorine).

I have seen that I can buy Hydria clear, which is more straightforward at 65% bromine and 30% available chlorine tabs, for almost half the price from many other stores.

I guess the question is, is there really a difference between these two?

Even at half the price thats a lot of money to spend on sanitation. Considering other options?

Eventually, but based off of my research, I can’t easily convert to a chlorine or a salt generator, unless I drain the pool.

Right now, I’m hoping to get another one or two years with the current equipment, and then eventually switching to salt.

So far, I have been lucky that over the last two years, I’ve needed nothing but bromine tabs and baking soda to maintain crystal Clear water, so it’s not that I’m upset with our set up, I just hate the price of bromine.

I get it. I think if I amortize my SWCG over 7 years, my chlorine costs me $200/year. And Ill probably get at least 7 years out of it so it should end up being even less than that.

$200/month pays for a SWCG in 7 months. 😉

Are you using TFP’s guidance? Really shouldnt ever need baking soda either if so. Only chemical I buy now is acid once in a while.

I thought I read on this forum that a water transfer or water change would be necessary.
A water change is necessary to convert the pool from bromine to chlorine, this is true. However you can absolutely set a bromine pool up with an SWG and it will simply maintain the bromine level the same as it would the chlorine level in a pool without a bromide bank.
