AquaPure and AquaLink connection

hello friends!

Our AquaPure 1400 SWG was just installed. I was not home when the installer put it in and the gentleman who came by today to check it did not have answers to several of my questions. I may have completely misunderstood the recommendations for which SWG to get but I thought this SWG would connect to my Jandy AquaLink PDA (PDA-PS4 Combo, firmware 7.1, jbox 5.4, handheld 5.5), but it doesn’t. The installer put a whole new box on the pool equipment pad (AquaLink RS Power Center). So my questions are:
1. Do I need some kind of wire that connects the two so that I can check the salinity, etc. with my PDA?
2. If I DO, is it worth doing? If I don’t connect it then how often should I go back and check on the unit to ensure the salt levels and chlorine are adequate? The salt should stay pretty consistent so I’m not having to monitor it all the time, correct?
3. I know I have read on here about the optimal pump run time for SWGs are, but I can’t seem to find it now. I have a variable speed pump and am unsure how long to run it?

thanks for you help, as always.

You should have got the Jandy Purelink system instead of the Aquapure system if you have the Aqualink. Any experienced Jandy installer should have known this.

See pages 23-24 in the Installation Manual - https://www.jandy.com/-/media/zodia...5600.pdf?rev=21331cc66cdf4659b179a829f7ac43b8

Confirm that the power is wired following Figure 14.

Figure 15 shows the 4 wire cable that needs to be installed to have the Aquapure communicate with the Aqualink.

Can you post a picture of your aqualink system and the new aquapure box with the doors opened? The installer should have connected them so you can control your SWG from the Aqualink system.

Shoot. I didn’t realize there is a difference. That’s so confusing!? Why are they called basically the same thing?!?

There were only two options under the Jandy brand on the comparison table and the folks here recommended the aquapure1400 which is what we got. It looks like there is a wire running from the aquapure box to the aqualink box

You don’t have the comm wire which attaches to the 4 wire block circled.

Please post picture of your Aqualink box with the door open. This picture is the AquaPure box. It appears that you do not have the RS485 wire running from this AquaPure to the AquaLink box.

It is possible to take the guts out of the AquaPure box (APUREM) and integrate them into the main Aqualink box. Your builder should have ordered that configuration to begin with. No real reason to do that now other than a cleaner installation as you can attach the two with RS485 4-wire cable. You can use any 4-wire 22 gauge alarm style cable.

I am curious if they connected the two so that the SWG cannot run without the pump running.

If the lower left unlabeled knockout electrical line is from the Aquapure then it looks like it is connected to the LOAD side of the filter/pump relay.

Assuming whoever wired that panel followed standards and made the upper left relay the filter/pump relay.

Ok great intel. We inherited the pool when we bought our house a few years ago and are just now converting to SWG for chlorination. The installer is coming back tomorrow to install the wire to connect them. Should I ask him to move the little interface box into the aqualink where that opening is? Or do we need a special set up for that?

Ah ok I thought this all was part of an initial installation. It makes sense now why it is separate. I don't think he will do that too much risk for him. It would be nice but not really necessary at all. I don't think he would need anything other than what is already there.
