Wha? Someone has
invited me to show off my nerdiness? Well, if you insist!!
I only clean my filters once a year, but when I say clean, I mean CLEAN! Spraying while it's spinning would not get the kind of clean I'm after. So I built a cartridge stand and cleaning platform, where I can sit and work on each cartridge at the perfect height for me. I use a hose with an adjustable flow valve thingie and then a nozzle. I've tried many other ways, this is what works for me. I actually run the nozzle up and down every single pleat of each cartridge. If I just blasted it from afar, as in that video, let alone while it was spinning, I would leave a good 50-75% of the dirt behind. And that's the stuff that clogs the filter. Spraying off twigs and leaves isn't cleaning a filter, IMO.
I located my cleaning station at the end of a stairway that accesses the lower part of my property. I built the landing large enough to accommodate a chair. All the water and gunk washes down the hill, and eventually finds its way to some trees.
The black ABS cartridge stand is permanent, doesn't get in the way and isn't in my sight line, so it's always ready to go.
I found that power-washer wasn't the right thing to use. It probably isn't good for the filter media, either. I like this for cleaning in between the pleats:
I control the force with one of these:
