Please recommend me a pool cleaner.

Hey guys,
I’m thinking about getting a pool cleaner. There are lots of options, from Dolphin to Polaris. I know the M600 is one of the top models, but I don’t want to spend $2K on it. I just found this one on Amazon—do you think it’s worth it? Any other alternatives?
Please advise.
Thank you!

Hi Jim,
thank you so much for your quick reply. I was wondering how long you have been using it. Is it as durable as Dolphin models? They tend to last for years. Also, do you keep it in the water all the time, or do you take it out every day after it finishes the job? I read that leaving it in the pool can affect the cleaner's lifespan.

It probably wouldn't matter from a user prospective but it appears there is 2 versions like there is a redesigned model this year. I see it for $550, $800 and over $1000 at discount sites which are usually fiercely competitive. IMO that gives some legs to the redesign theory that last years version is on clearance.

Pro,

I've had my EVO almost two years.. So far so good, but time will tell.. In my opinion it is just a better unit.. Read the review...

The Dolphins that are in the form factor in your pic, tend to last between 3 to 4 years... I would not call that "for years".. The very old Dolphin Diagnostics did last a long time.. Years ago I bought two used ones and used them for 7 or 8 years... The newer design is not at all like the older ones.

Until recently, I had three pools.. At my two rent house pools, the robots stayed in the water 24/7/365 except when the tenants took them out to swim. The robots at my house only go in the water one or two times a week.. I could see no difference between their failure rates.. I don't think leaving them in the water makes any difference at all.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thank you, Jim.
I also noticed that it's a discontinued model, and there's a new equivalent, the Polaris EPIC 8642iQ. Any chance you've looked at it? Is it worth paying a couple of hundred extra for the new model?

Pro,

I suggest that you talk with Margaret at Marina Pool and Spa.

She stays up to date on these things...

I have not heard that the EVO discontinued... That said, they change a paint color and call it a new robot...

Thanks,

Jim R.
