Not sure where to start with my new pool. Wish I would have found this site before I started it.
Just finished "Pool School" with the pool company and it was a joke. Day one, he cleaned it and poured a half gallon of acid in it and never tested the water. Came back a two days later and cleaned it, showed how to use the pump and cleaned filters. Did a water test with a strip, which he said was a joke but had to use due to company rules. He put in a bunch of PH up chemical and added two pucks to the chlorinator and gave the standard recommend chemistry levels and said we should be good to go. Said test water once a week or so and clean every week but knows no one ever does??
Where do I start? I have a TP-Pro kit and CL is slight yellow but not even .5 an PH is at 8.5 so not sure why he added anything to raise it. TA 120 CH 300 and didn't test CYA yet since the tablets were just added. Pool was clear but now cloudy since he added the PH up (has been 24 hrs)
I probably should have went salt but the salesman said the tablet system is better. My main problem is that I travel every week Monday-Thursday so daily water test and adding liquid chlorine everyday is not an option.
Looking for advise on how to start and get my baseline set and best way to maintain with to tablet system.
Thanks!

ok, then follow the instructions in the link I provided!
Thank you.
I looked for something like that earlier and couldn’t find it. Must’ve not looked hard enough.
What’s your opinion on adding the stabilizer since I’m going to more than likely use the pucks? Should I bring the CYA up right away or let the tablets slowly increase it? It’s not swim season here yet for probably a month.

What is your long term chlorination strategy? In Texas, using pucks, your CYA will climb such that you likely will have to drain and replace water a couple times in a year.

I would SERIOUSLY consider getting an SWG, particularly with your travel.

I figured I’d give it a go with the tablets see how it goes. Didn’t want to start the CYA out too high if not needed yet since the tablets are also adding it. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll switch to a SWG since water changes in a fiberglass pool are not very easily done.

You just need to follow the startup guide I provided.

Also know that the FC requirement change with the CYA level. Review this...Link-->FC/CYA Levels

The SWG has reduced my pool maintenance to be BORING. I won't hesitate to leave for a couple weeks.

For water changes, see "No Drain Water Exchange" here:
