I need to do a complete drain due to high CYA and calcium hardness. I have a Zoller 1/3 hp submersible pump (40gpm) and a 5/8” garden hose. Hose run is a lengthy 135’. Lift is about 5 1/2 feet. Pool is 10K gallons, but I’m just looking for a flow rate….I can do the math. Has anyone done this? Just curious how long this is going to take. I’d run a test and measure the flow, but that’s as much work as starting the drain and I’m not quite ready to start it yet. Just looking for a rough idea. I was thinking I’d be lucky to get 6 -7 GPM, but IDK.

Use a bigger hose, or multiple hoses. I happened to have irrigation pipe on hand. But if not, flat backwash hose is pretty cheap.

Or buy the 1.6 HP pump for $83 on Amazon and a large hose. (As of this second there is a $10 coupon making it $73)

The Zoller pump has a 1.5" output.

You can build a pvc "stack" with a 1.5" Male threaded to SLP connector (thread goes into the pump). Glue a length of 1.5" PVC to get it to the height required, then a 90, then a short piece, the an SLP to threaded FEMALE connector. Finally put this adapter into the female threads:

You can then connect a 1.5" backwash hose to the adapter with a hose clamp...you will get good production.

I would put the sump in a bucket to protect the pool surface.

I might also recommend you follow the "no drain water exchange" here:

End result will look like this:

I get about 3.4 GPM.
