Need to replace my expansion joint mastic again. I did it the first time, and was a pain. So I got a quote from my pool guy to do it and it's $800. I'm not excited to pay that much...

I was all paranoid when I did it the first time with regards to filling it back right away... After the old is removed is this something that has to be refilled immediately? Or is this something that I can remove on a Friday night.... Then re-seal the next day... I'm thinking this is a pretty stupid question and the answer is yes.... But just want to double check....

Yes. No rush to get new sealer in place.

For your size pool, $800 isn't that bad. I have 25,000 gallons and got a quote of $1200, and a friend with a smaller pool got quoted $1400. Does that $800 quote include removing the old caulk and include the new mastic product? I paid around $500 just for my material(Deck-O-Seal).

hmmm - interesting point.... The expansion gap is around half of the pool, the back half is vegetation... And the quote does include the Deck-O-Seal.

Get a case of this from Home Depot. You will fill a lot of joints. Big joints put in filler first. Not too hard of a job.

Not sure about the Sikaflex, but the Deck-O-Seal seems very strong and levels nicely. Just make sure you have sufficient foam blocking underneath. I had a couple spots that would not hold and the caulk sunk. It's tough to get a smooth finish if you try to touch up a spot already setting. It won't self level good.
