Aiper Scuba S1 Review

I was away for several days and came home to a semi-dirty pool due to rain and wind blowing leaves. I dropped the S1 in and 3 hrs later it was clean. After 2 hrs it was clean and I left it in to see where it would park itself. With a Freeform pool I like that it does random paths (to some extent). It first goes across the narrow part of the pool, then when it gets to the other end, it switches to lengthwise tracks. I appears to find everything on the floor. I had set for floor only mode.
I love it in floor only mode. Since it’s running for close to 3 hours, it covers the entire floor multiple times ensuring that it gets everything. My filter basket confirms that it does. It catches everything

that firmware must be for pro only as there is no way to connect the non-pro model to the regular s1. I'm done with my adventure anyhow and I'm shipping mine back for refund today. Bit the bullet and spent way too much money on the beatbot. But the S1 was almost good enough to completely replace my hose and pole and I'm hopeful the beatbot can makeup for what the s1 did not do well.
The update works on the Scuba S1 just fine. Mine is not the pro. Download App. Put Scuba S1 in pairing mode (While plugged in, hold down the button for 10 seconds). Then go to WiFi on phone and connect to Aipeer_xxxxx - Password is 12345678. Then go to app and navigate to choose Scuba S1 and updates. That’s it - took me probably 3 minutes from App Download and updated it just fine.

I tried but my phone wouldn’t pair with the S-1. Didn’t even recognize it as a device. I held the button down for 10+ seconds and then connected to the Aiper Wi-fi successfully. Then went to the Aiper app and it said no devices found. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It is not for the pro only, the S1 has wireless connectivity. Open the pdf and follow the instructions.

It may require some trial and error, as I stated previously it took some persistence on my part, starting over and trying again (several times) before it would pair but it eventually did.

Keep your phone near the Scuba.

I also had trouble pairing it. Then on the app I went to Support then selected Scuba 1. After select FAQ and near bottom was How do I update Robot. Click on that and it will walk you through it to connect. However when I did it it said I was up to date V1.0.6. See attached

We had a storm blow through with 50mph winds. Lots of leaves in pool at bottom and on surface. My Betta surface bot was already in pool so it scooped up quite a bit but with wind blowing it could not motor against it but did fine when storm pasted. I then dropped in the Scuba 1 and within 2 hrs it had cleaned the bottom. It picked up lots of fine particles. Again it started on the narrow width then transitioned to lengthways and covered the whole free form pool. See picture of basket

Yea I did all of that, but I'm sure I skipped over something in the sequence so it's quite possible my troubles were self inflicted.

Interesting. The customer support people didn't tell me about this and just accepted my return. The app itself doesn't list the non-pro model, just the pro and nowhere in the instructions that come with the S1 does it say anything about how to put it in pairing mode. You can see my earlier comment about this a few pages back.

I guess I just find it odd that they didn't advise me of a firmware update when I said I was having issues, and the app is bad and their website doesn't mention it. Weird business model... unless perhaps mine already had the update and they knew that?

Hanlon's Razor comes to mind. It states: "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity."
Or, perhaps in this case, due to poor customer service training.

yeah I've never worked in CS, but I have some colleagues who run it for my company and they basically describe it as a pretty simple script. I'm not trying to downplay the complexity of the job or be demeaning, but somewhere high up on the decision tree should be "advise the customer of firmware update". I think back to a similar issue I had with a new cell trail cam from browning and sure enough a yet to be released on their website firmware update fixed all my issues.
oh well.

After “numerous” attempts, I was finally able to access the website and heard my S-1 beep when it came on-line. Clicked on upgrade and downloaded the most recent firmware update (V1.0.8). Now let’s see what it does differently, if anything. 🤞

So, I ran the S-1 tonight after uploading the new version and honestly didn’t notice much difference. It seemed to be doing some different patterns but I just kept it be and walked away. After 3 hours it was sitting in the corner of the shallow end waiting to be retrieved. I checked the entire bottom as it was dirty when it started and the whole floor was clean. So, my would be to not spend too much time watching it but just check out the results at the end. If it’s clean, and the filter basket is dirty, then nothing else matters.

mine would get a ton of junk too, but I wish they offered a fine debris filter. The amount of silt and sand I got from my beatbot confirmed how much was still being left behind.
