Also, as far as pool water chemistry is concerned, yesterday at around 3pm I measured an FC of 3.0 as I had let the SWG run at a lower output for a while to come down off of a recent FC high from a teenager party. And for those of you that might be like, “OMG!! You went below the minimum …. 😱😱😱😱” let me just say,

I decided to bump it up with 1/2 gallon of FC and got to 6.6ppm. Then the pool ran for the rest of the day with no SWG output and overnight. 16 hours later, with zero SWG output the entire time, I measured the FC at 6.0. So thats a 0.0375ppm/hour loss rate. Pretty darn good in my opinion.

The pool water remains clean, clear, and sans-wasps … aka, flying jalapeños…

I’m sensing a Bill Murray in Caddy Shack level of obsession in dealing with these pests...just sayin'.

I hate wasps with a passion. Opened the deck box last night and there were like 10 of them. The wife has no fear and she went to dispatch the with wasp spray. I was trying to get them with dawn and water but it was too windy. I've left coke cans with apple juice and borid acid mix around but these guys must like the protein vs the sweet so maybe I will soak some tuna with the apple juice and boric acid mix.

Are you making them lunch or trying to kill them???

DE powder with a potent nerve agent will stop them dead in their tracks and any that make it back to the nest will transfer the DE and nerve toxin hopefully to the queen and kill the entire colony.

Save the tuna fish snack for training Shamu …

Old timer told me wasps sometimes go more for the protein but the boric acid (any amount of it) will kill them in short period of time and if they share any of it will kill the colony as well. Interesting enough boric acid will not harm honey bees.

For shame!! 😱😂😂

Are you only after the surface tension so the wasps don't land?

I’m not after any specific chemical or physical effect. My goal is just to get the wasps to go somewhere else. If that involves their death by drowning, then so be it.

Check out this video I just captured -

I walk outside and saw a little activity on the water. On closer inspection, a wasp had just landed. It is definitely not able to stand on the water. The video makes that pretty clear.
Seeing a wasp in panic mode brought me so much more joy than it probably should have.

SKILL-IT contains an ADBAC quaternary ammonium algaecide. It has a positively charged methylated ammonium head, typically with a benzene ring as well as a long chained alkane tail. This creates the necessary mycelle structure that allows the chemical to attach to negatively charged suspended particles in water or algae surfaces generally around pores in the algae walls. This then causes problems with water/ion transport across the organisms membrane which typically leads to cell death. The fact that the chemical has a charged structure with a hydrophobic tail allows it to act as a surfactant and gives it a mild clarifiying effect. That’s about 60% of the composition. The rest of the composition is alcohol (stabilizes and dispersed the ADBAC into solution), water, a thickening agent, and blue coloring.

Jet Dry, on the other hand …

Surfactant, sure. But also a whole lot of other chemicals to reduce scaling, inhibit foaming, and suspend any particulate matter …

Most definitely NOT the same stuff.
