Do liquid pool covers clog cartridge filters?

I'm looking into using a liquid pool cover to help reduce evaporation as part of taking steps to reduce water usage during the severe drought in California. Marin County is actually suggesting using these in lieu of a physical cover. I'm not looking to these for a heat-saving solution, just evaporation reduction.

I've read a lot of positive reviews for these liquid covers to reduce water evaporation but I've also read some reviews that say they can clog up cartridge filters. What are folks' experience with any negative effects on cartridge filters?

If I don't like it, how do I get rid of it, does it just deteriorate on it's own or do I need to take any action to remove it?

Are there specific brands that TFP folks prefer?

Thanks
Brad

They work ok in an indoor pool. With any wind in an outdoor pool, they do not work.
I tried some for awhile. I did not see an issue in the filter. They can leave a residue on waterline, skimmer, etc.

Thanks. Is the residue easy to clean? Can I just brush it off? Does it eventually just breakdown on its own once you stop using it?

The product is an alcohol derivative. It will leave a sticky residue. Nothing horrible. You must be ware of how much product you use. More is not better. I used simple green diluted to clean it off the water line and skimmer parts. I suppose if you use too much of the stuff it could clog the filters. I TSP soak my filter cartridges every year so that should remove any residue.

Do realize the stuff only works with the pool pump off, and as I previously stated, no wind on the surface of the pool.

I didn't know about having the pool pump off but I have heard about the wind issue. My pump from 9am-3pm so it may decrease the value but I guess I'm leaning on the side of giving it a try. I had seen posts about folks putting too much: I'll be sure not to. In Marin County pool covers are now required for the drought but they allow the use of liquid covers. I really don't want to put on my bubble cover so if this suffices that would be good for me.

Good idea on the TSP soak for the filter, may try that this year too.

Thanks for the input!
