Vacuum plate... Feeling dumb

I’ve just replaced the previous homeowner’s cracked and falling apart pool vacuum hoses with a single standard pool vac hose instead of the 3 foot sections you have to put together. This one:

He also had a weird annoying skimmer attachment that I assume was originally from an automatic vac that they didn’t have anymore. It was also cracked and useless. So I looked up my skimmer model number and bought a compatible vac plate. This one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005P4UEGQ/

The vac plate fits perfectly and the top of it sets about 2-3 inches below the water level. My problem is that I can’t attach the hose to the vac plate... it just doesn’t bend enough to go through the poolside skimmer opening and then onto the vac plate. Am I supposed to go from the pool deck opening with the hose... or what am I missing??

I did see there are some vac plates that have a bend in them. Did I get the wrong type? Is there an adapter I can get?

Skimmer is Hayward SP1070 according to what’s on the lid.

Hi MeSue,
You can do it either way. I have the same hose (I think) and I go over the skimmer and through the top to attach it - otherwise it doesn't make a good seal. You can also get a skimmer attachment with a 90 degree angle instead of the one you have pictured above. They sell them on Amazon as well. If you scroll down the amazon page for your link under "similar items" it shows one with a 90 degree attachment on top...

Hope this helps!
