My spa is pretty big at 10'x8', so in the winter the cover can get pretty unwieldy and ultimately bent the tubes of the lift at the bottom. The base components were basically undamaged however, so I built up a new tube frame out of mostly 1" EMT conduit, with a few 12" long 3/4" chunks to act as splices. I am still concerned that the main issue with this design is the bending load being carried by the 3" joint between the pivot pin and the stop, so I'm going to add a bit of strap webbing attached between the tub cabinet and the middle of the upright portion of the tube to take some of that load and hopefully prevent that bending from happening again.
I also have a couple of cans of matte brown spray paint that I'm going to hit this with to keep the wife happy that everything matches and looks nice.
Spa ownership is certainly a non-stop parade of maintenance.
