    Testing Salt Water Pools

Thanks for info everyone. Yes, I’m going to recommend he join and do some research before he does anything. I’m not sure how much work he’s willing to put into testing own water. ( got this question from wife who works with this person). Question actually came about because he has a 3 year old...

    Testing Salt Water Pools

Hi, My friend has a salt water pool and has someone take care of everything for him, but wants to look into how to check his levels himself. I have a chlorine pool and I use the recommended kit from you guys. But I know nothing about salt water pools. What should he use to test his water?

Pool leak - already closed for season

BTW, curious if you’ve heard of a similar situation with what happened to my original liner. So my original liner was replaced in Spring of 2021. Back in summer of 2020 I noticed big drop in water so I investigated and found 2 pretty good sized tears in the side wall. I know how it happened no...

Pool leak - already closed for season

Thanks! My plan is definitely to let it keep emptying AND hopefully it will stop before it reaches the bottom so it would be easy to find and patch. My fear and my trying to plan ahead for is that IF the leak is on the floor making it much harder to find. My guess is that the pool is about 2 to...

Pool leak - already closed for season

Thanks! I guess you mean around the outside of the pool, but I have a semi-inground. If I can’t find the leak, or if there are many holes so can’t stop the leak, what precautions can I take if I have to leave the pool empty all winter? Because right now, this is not a slow leak. It would be...

Pool leak - already closed for season

I pulled back my pool cover and measured my water level. It’s about 30 inches. I suspect like in most cases the leak(s) is going to be on the floor. If that’s the case the water level will probably be down to about a foot or less by the weekend so it might not be too bad to get into the cold...

Pool leak - already closed for season

I was wondering if I’d be better leaving uncovered for the winter. If I do that I guess I would just have a mess to deal with in the spring, but if leaving uncovered keeps the walls from collapsing better off. So frustrating because I just replaced the liner couple years ago. Third season with...

Pool leak - already closed for season

Hey, I’m screwed aren’t I? I closed my pool last weekend and now have noticed I have a leak somewhere. Based on feeling around the pool it seems like I lost 8-12 inches at least. I have a semi-inground oval pool. It’s too cold to consider taking the cover off and trying to find the leak...

    High Chlorine After Shock

OMG that is a heck of a drop. But just to clear up any confusion, my CYA isn’t 30pmm, just that’s the lowest number on the tube. I can easily see the dot at 30ppm so it could be at 20ppm or less I guess. Tomorrow night I’ll add another 13ppm or maybe more and see where that bring me too.

    High Chlorine After Shock

When I started my Slam over a month ago my CYA was 60ppm. This past weekend I tested it and it dropped a lot. The CYA test tube only goes to 30ml and I could still see the dot. So my CYA was as low as 20ppm or less. Now, the week before I did add about 4 inches of water to the pool, but I can’t...

    High Chlorine After Shock

So now out of SLaM and keeping normal levels. I tested this morning and my FC was 9.0 , my PH was 7.2, and my alkalinity was 80. So I think best would be to raise PH, but alkalinity is where it should be, correct.? Baking soda would raise both PH and Alkalinity. Should I just leave Ph where is...

    High Chlorine After Shock

No, I decided to not for the sole reason that I wasn’t going to be able to keep them at that level. I tried on thursday, and in 12 hours I lost about 38ppm in a 12 hour period. I can’t add chlorine more than 3-5 times a day in weekend, and only 2 times in weekdays usually. 2 or 3 times during...
