Gunite spa plaster won’t clean up

What is your CH? This is just a guess but it looks like calcium scale with imbedded dirt. Solution would be to lower water level to expose it and clean with a wire brush or muriatic

Thoughts On CYA Level VS FC

Well, it seems it would shorten the life a little but I don't know what alternatives are available. The covers are short-lived anyway so I doubt you will see much difference.

Could you design the decking to rest on top of the Pool Wall but overhang enough to cover up the imperfections?

Question on opening pool and pump/filter priming

    This could help https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/01/18/suction-side-air-leaks/

    Pump loses prime?

Your description is hard to follow so I'll just make this general statement...... Loss of prime more often than not is the result of a suction side leak This may help Suction Side Air Leaks

    Dosage Question

Welcome to the forum  I would be just a bit more concerned. CH seems to build up more quickly than folks think and it's a pain to get rid of. 250 CH is enough and keeps you in the 250-400 range as recommended.

    Multiple SLAM attempts

Poolstored, I understand. I wanted readers to understand that sometimes clarifiers work, (rarely ?) however, it is not included in TFP's suggested methods and I think you left little doubt about that.

    Target ph or CYA first

The SLAM article is VERY specific about the factors required to be finished. Follow the SLAM article to the letter......you are NOT done,

    Multiple SLAM attempts

TFP does not suggest clarifier. If often causes more complications but, in some cases (apparently yours included) it seems to work. Check your filter media when your SLAM is done making sure you are not gummed up. So progress from greenish to bluish is very good. Sounds like algae after all...

Review of my plan? New to maintaining my own pool...black algae and CYA way off

Are you really sure it's black algae? Got a pic?
  14. duraleigh

    Algae or somethimg

Well, no. We use a process called SLAM to get rid of algae permanently. We never "shock" a pool. Here's more info https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2018/12/12/slam-shock-level-and-maintain/ https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/category/pool-school/pool-care-basics/
