Just had a Pentair Intelliflo 3HP VSF pump installed. I have it hooked up to my Easy Touch. What kind of settings are you guys using? It will be operating my pool and spa. I also have a pressure side Polaris cleaner that runs a couple of hours a day. I just want to use the VSF to its fullest potential. Thanks for any info!!

P,

You run a pump for a reason.. The good thing about a VS pump is that you can run it at different speeds depending on the "reason".. You have not told us what you want the pump to do..

Here are a few reasons..

To generate chlorine when using a SWCG or tab feeder
To allow your skimmers to work well
To make your waterfall look the way you want
To run a suction side or pressure side cleaner
etc,
etc,

I personally have a SWCG and run my IntelliFlo most of the time at 1200 rpm.

I suggest that you initially run your pump using the RPM settings, rather than the GPM settings.. 99% of people do not need the VF section of the pump. After a year, if you can find any reason to use the VF settings, then just change it to what you want.

Tell us all about your pool by completing your pool's signature and you will get some better feed back. You can use mine as an example.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I guess I will have to get on a PC to do my signature. As it sits right now, I have my VSF running at 2500 RPM’s for most of the day, then for 3 hours at 3000 RPM’s when the cleaner is running to get good flow to it, and the skimmers. It is also set at 3000 RPMs when the spa is running. Does this sound right, or way off? I am completely new to this VS pump.

If you are trying to use a tab feeder to add chlorine (and CYA with it) you might have to run at those levels. Otherwise, I would drop down to 1200 rpm and see how the pool is skimmed.

P,

If you have a heater then you will need to run about 1500 or so as your lowest speed.

That is just a guess.. Only you can tell for sure. Experiment with it.. you can't hurt anything.

Thanks,

Jim R.

No idea on the pressure side cleaner. I would suspect you can just start at the 1200 rpm and see if it works. If not, raise the RPM for when that runs. The Spa also depends on how many jets, how much force you want, do you have an air blower or natural aeration, etc.

P,

Since you have a SWCG, I suggest that you set the pump to a low speed that does not turn on the cell's flow switch.. Then slowly increase the speed until the flow light just comes on. Add 100 rpm and call it good.

The same thing goes for your cleaner.. Lower the rpm until the cleaner is not working the way you want.. Then increase the speed to where the cleaner works well. Add 100 RPM and you are done..

You can set the spa speed the same way..

You basically are customizing the speeds for you, your equipment, and your plumbing.

Thanks,

Jim R.

As a data point, I run my IntelliFlo 24/7 at 1000 rpm (75 watts) and that provides enough for skimming and SWG operation. This costs me around $5 a month in electricity, and it's almost silent.

You'll need to bump up the RPM for the cleaner and using the spa, but otherwise you can normally run at a low RPM.

Now, when I run my pump during the day, I also have a spillway that dumps over from my hot tub. I’m not sure if that makes any difference at all, but I know it does take away flow from the jets that are pushing the debris to the skimmers

I do not have ScreenLogic. Also, is there a way to set the pool to run at a low speed part of the day, then a higher speed later in the day to clean all the stuff off the surface in the afternoon? Basically I have it set at a low speed most of the day, but for 3 hours a day, I have the cleaner on too, and it runs at a higher speed. I would like to be able to run it at a higher speed, on a different button, so that I can remove the cleaner from the pool, but have the skimmers working better. How that is easy enough to understand, lol!

P,

My day is done, so I'll have to get back to you tomorrow..

What you want to do should be easy...

You really should not have to push any buttons.. Your pool should just run on a schedule....

Talk with you tomorrow,

Jim R.

P,

If you had ScreenLogic you could show me a page like the one below.. It would tell me all your Circuits.. So you are going to have to tell me what you have..

The best way to do this would be for you so post a pic of the buttons at the top of the EasyTouch, and then a picture of the inside of your EasyTouch showing all the relays and circuit breakers.

Like this...

Thanks,

Jim R.
