@Texas Splash has gone though stains on his fiberglass pool.
Larry, welcome to TFP! In the pics I'm seeing what appears to be some brown spots and perhaps some gelcoat fading. Which one are you concerned about? Or both issues? Also tell us how old this shell is and who was the manufacture if you know. Gelcoats sometimes have a mind of their own, but we'll try to help if we can.
It would also help to see some water testing history. Anything you can show us. Besides the SWG (salt) and acid, any other chemicals used in the water?
the pool was installed 2007 by SanJuan. I realized this year I needed to add some calcium hardness (currently 208).
alkalinity is 128
cya 56
ph 7.8
salt 4228...my cell had a calcium buildup and kept calling for salt so I have cleaned the cell and lowered the salt.
I am concerned about the dark...if you see the drains on the angled up from the bottom you will then see a dark line in front of that where the flat bottom begins (that is the dark).
WE don't put any faith in the accuracy of Pool Store testing. To advice on water chemistry we want to see tests from your own test kit. Either a Taylor K-2006C or TFT Test Kits
the water chemistry above was with the leslie home accublue
I have rerun the test with the taylor and have almost the same...results:
calcium hardness taylor says 280 but my taylor regents are very old and I would trust leslie above more.
alkalinity is 130
cya 50
ph 7.8
I have ordered the jack's magic stain identify kit...will be here on 22nd...do you think that will help/be worth it?
no i do not have softened water....I had put 18 pounds of calcium hardness in this summer to get it to the mid 200....the calcium hardness had been in the 80s
I guess I would like to bring the initial question back to the surface. I am trying to identify the dark area (stain, etc) on the bottom of my fiberglass pool. Can anyone identify from the pictures? Or will the Jack's Magic ID kit work? Or is poolstainremovers.com product known and could help?
Larry, until your ID kit arrives you can try the following DIY tests:
- Rub stain with a Vitamin C tablet (iron)
- Rub stain with a chlorine tablet r sprinkle some cal-hypo on it (organic)
- Put some dry acid (pH Down) in a thin sock or nylon and rub on teh stain (copper).
