I've had to drain off my pool recently due to heavy rains and to do so, I unravel the discharge hose and run it to an area to drain.

Well when I turn the pump and that Dang hose filles, it's like trying to wrestle a giant serpent. If I let go the hose comes alive!

Is there a better way to do this that I am failing to see?

Use 2 or 3 concrete blocks as anchors. Place the end of the hose through one block. Use the other(s) as weight(s) to anchor the hose about 3-4' from the end. Adjusted as need.

+1. I was thinking of passing it through 3 cinderblocks in thirds. You might only need one in the middle and one at the end, but the end one may need to be a couple feet back from the tip.
