Warming Area Around Hot Tub Under Gazebo Curtains

That's what my better half suggested too, but then at 100 we are both hot after about 10 minutes into the 15 minute timed cycle, so for now I've been trying to talk her out of it. Maybe 101 ... ? ;)

I've added a remote receptacle to the 1500W heater outside and a 136W foot warming mat. I think they help but it's warmed up since I got the mat so not sure yet. On the other hand my better half keeps telling me they are a wasted effort.

We were shopping for heaters and I ALMOST got her to agree to a torpedo type propane 76,000 BTU (adjustable output) over a 9000 BTU propane stand-alone using small cylinders. The sales guy talked her out of it due to "fumes" and burning oxygen. Bear in mind people do use them to heat garages with a window cracked open, and our gazebo curtains are all on hangers so open at the top. A week later I was at Richard's sporting goods and read the same 5000/9000BTU warnings from a different manufacturer and it just said crack a window if using indoors. Hmmm

Some terry robes are on order.

I need to take a pic and post it.

I just looked at your profile - Alabama and you are cold ?

In all seriousness. My tub is outdoors under a deck. 80% is under the deck, 20% sticks out. It is open on three sides, and has maybe 30% coverage on the fourth side. It is pretty well sheltered from wind.

It is about 8' from the back door of my house to the tub stairs.

So, while not windy, the air around my tub is cold in the winter. My wife will move from a jet area to a cooling seat and back again during the 20 min or so we are in the tub (she does this year round). Me, I stay submerged up to my chin :)

Flip flops and a robe negate the need for a warming mat :)

Have you thought about a gas infrared tube heater? I have one from Calcana on my patio that heats an area that is 15x20 and it keeps the entire area warm even with a light breeze. Mine is 10 feet long and runs at 75k adjustable btu. If you crank it up you can play strip poker in the winter if you are in to that kind of thing.

My better half's decided the warning the sales person gave us about carbon monoxide meant we couldn't burn fuel...

In a gazebo? Well ok. If you have 220v to the gazebo the infrared electric heaters work pretty well but they do use a lot of electricity and the reason I mentioned 220v is that of the 110v units I have witnessed the 220v seem to do a much better job. Since there is a tub nearby I would suspect there is 220v somewhere. Also, for outdoors, infrared heaters have the benefit of heating objects not air. That means that a breeze is less likely to impact the heating. Don't waste your money on forced air since the heat will go right up and out of your gazebo.

From a pros and cons perspective the gas heater tends to crank out a lot more heat vs cost in our area. However, if they are flue gas heaters they will have a blower sound when they are running.

The electrician is lazy and won't run more wire. He is old, tired, and lazy (me) ;)

Well! First hot tub winter is going to be a dosey! It was 3 deg. this morning and the gazebo zippers were frozen. Reminds me of a site call in Korea standing on a mountain top watching it snow straight up off the mountainside.

THE JOYS OF HOT TUB OWNERSHIP :shark:
