Vacumming method after Flocculant is in the pool

Hello everyone,

Our pool was green and with bad concerete drooling everywhere on the bottom of the pool.
After algacide and shock it for several days it is now time for the Flocculant.
We put the whole bottle of Flocculant and now it has been good 24 hours.
Water looks clear than ever and much particles are on the bottom of the floor.

We bought manual vacuum hose and the head.
Do we vaccum the bottom of the pool with hose connected to the skimmer
with valve on WASTE or FILTER? We've had to backwash some water.
We have some concrete drooling pieces on the bottom of the pool, some small some little bigger.
If we do the vaccuming with WASTE, do I have garden hose in the pool simulaneoutly of after this
vacuuming is done? Are we supposed to repeat this cycle of vacumming until all the visible particles are gone?

Also, my pool installer told me to use shop vac. But I don't know what and how the shop vac is used for?
I tried to goggled, but I could not find appropriate answers for my case.

Welcome to the forum!

Well, the floc is in the pool so now you will deal with it. Just never use it again.

You must vac to waste. It will not filter out very well and it will also gum up your sand and laterals to the point it will all need to be replaced.

You must add water once your level drops below your skimmer. I would not suggest adding water at the same time as vac as that will mix things up. So this will take steps, many steps.

I suppose you could use a shop vac, but I also think that will be very slowwwwww.

Once you get past this, I encourage you to review Pool School and consider buying your own proper test kit to properly manage your pool water chemistry. It will save you lots of money compared to the potions (such as floc) you are using.

Use the waste setting.

I'd add water beforehand, as high as you dare. That will buy you a little extra vacuuming time.

Fill as much water as you can before you start vacuuming, the rest has already been covered by other posters =)

I appreciate your reply so much.
My neighbor suggested us to used the floc.
I thought it did great right after I saw all the concrete dissolve, algae staying on the ground.
We started manually vacuuming on waste and we've had to repeat the cycle 3 times and my husband is not happy!
Our other neighbor came to see what kinda progress we were making. He offered to let us use the robotic cleaner.
We read a lot and researched and ended up buying a robotic cleaner paid $1,000. We used it few times yesterday
and now our water is mixed again and looking so lovely.... In the meantime, with the sun shining, it is starting to turn green again.
I am in the verge of giving up!

I am so sorry to sound needy, but please let us know what I do now.

Should we keep on the robotic vacuum cleaner running until its filter is clean?
Robotic machine filter is coming back dirty.
Should we run this machine until it comes back clean?
Our goal is now to get rid of the concrete dissolve, algae and dirt.

If your having green problems you will probably need to SLAM.

The best piece of advice is for you to buy a good test kit ASAP.

While you are waiting on that to come in read as much of pool school as you can.

If you have a test kit at all, test your water and post results here.

Take some pictures and post them here.

The robot was not cleaning out the floc, just mixing it up. So I imagine you had pulled most of the floc out with your vac to waste.

As stated above, and in my original post, you need to get a proper test kit and SLAM Process. Can you add some more detail to your signature? See Pool School - Read This BEFORE You Post

You should add 5 ppm of FC per day until you get your test kit. Use PoolMath to calculate how much liquid chlorine/bleach that is.

My husband and I have been working hard for the last 2 wks.
And we are good! Our Hayward salt chlorine system is working good as well.
I will check the thread about this salt chlorine system later.
