Umbrella sleeve in pool sun ledge

I hope this question is not out of the realm of this group. We had our pool remodeled recently. Our PB put in a sun ledge with 2 bubblers and 1 umbrella sleeve between the 2 bubblers. I bought an umbrella and it easily went into the sleeve. The problem is the sleeve goes deep! It’s 15.5” deep from the surface into the ledge. Now my umbrella is 88” tall but the fabric and metal things in the umbrella are 45” from top down. The umbrella has a crank to put it up. Because this sits just inches from the steps to enter or exit the pool, the umbrella sits much too low. I have to lean way down to crank the umbrella up and once up if anyone needs in or out of the pool I have to do it again. I’m not young and this is taking a toll…lol. What I am wondering is how much of the umbrella pole needs to sit in concrete? Ours sits 15.5” in, which is why our umbrella sits so short and causes these problems. If it could sit at a shallower depth, maybe 10”? Could we possibly put rocks in it to keep the umbrella pole from going so far into the pvc sleeve? It’s just pvc, it has no cap and it is slightly bigger than 1.5” diameter. Our umbrella is 1.5” diameter and it fits fairly well but has a tiny bit of a lean, not enough to bother us, just trying to give measurements. Anybody have any ideas? We never leave the umbrella up, always put it down and tie it when we leave the pool.

Not seeing the umbrella pole setup or current measurements of what you have…..would a bar height umbrella pole extension give you enough clearance for what you‘re needing? The poles are readily available on Amazon, front gate etc for about $30 and may get you the height increase you’re looking for depending on your setup.

Something like this: Umbrella Extension Pole for Bar Height Table

I was actually looking for a bar height umbrella but did not find one before I posted. Now I have found an umbrella at Sam’s Club Online only so I can’t check it before purchasing but it does read assembled height to be 101” Our current umbrella is 88” so if their measurement is right it will solve the problem. Fingers crossed as it is supposed to arrive on the 7th.

The new umbrella I received from Sam’s Club is indeed 101” tall, the tallest one I have found, but ironically because it is taller the umbrella width when opened is also bigger. It does work much better than the old one but still have difficulty when trying to enter or leave the pool with the umbrella up, as it pokes you. We only have a small step there and the contractor who did a great job otherwise put the umbrella hole too close to the step. Trying to figure out a solution. I’m still thinking the umbrella hole is deeper than it needs to be at 15.5”. Could anyone measure the depth of their umbrella holes in a sun or Baja step? I would really like to know how deep this is on others pools. I think I could put some pvc in the bottom to shorten it a bit but know it would be hard to get back out if it didn’t work, so would like ideas of others depth? My umbrella is light weight with an all aluminum pole. I tie it down each time we leave the pool. I’m thinking 12” would probably work fine but I could be wrong. I cannot seem to find this answer anywhere!
