Think My T-Cell-15 Needs Replacement

Getting the low salt light on my SWG system. It is showing 1200 for average salt and a manual test is 3900 (added a little too much before discovering the issue). With that ratio, I'm guessing the cell is probably about done. Serial number is 3E14308, so I have gotten a decent amount of years out of it. Strange thing is, my pool looks great and it still has chlorine (TC is 2).

A few questions:
-guess I'm looking for some reassurance that I need to replace my cell
-is there any problem or danger to other parts of the system if I wait a few weeks before replacing?
-if I get the same cell, I assume I can just take the old one off and put the new one on like I was doing a cleaning (and reset the clean cell indicator)?
-are there a few favorite online vendors that people on the forum like to deal with for new cells (lots of companies on Hayward online sellers chart)?

Get some fc in the water via liquid chlorine asap- 2ppm is quite low, you don’t want nasties growing while you work out your cell issues. You’ll need to continue to manually chlorinate until your replacement arrives.
Follow the FC/CYA Levels
Use your fas dpd test and test fc & cc accurately.
The yellow OTO test is just a “do I have any chlorine or not” kind of test.
The cell replacement is exactly as you described. Turn it off, unplug the cord, isolate the plumbing then remove the cell & replace it with the new one, reverse the process.
You will need to replace some water to bring your salt level down to 3400 or below & circulate for a day before turning on the new cell as you don’t want to damage anything on the board or throw the high salt light.
As for a vendor for the replacement one inyo, polytec, pool supply unlimited, leslies, & doheny are all very legit sellers that folks here have used. Be sure to verify the warranty of the product you are purchasing.
They are usually about the same price everywhere so often the best option if possible is to buy locally at a brick & mortar so you can just go back there if you have an issue.

So should I unplug the current cell until I get a new one? Might be a couple weeks as I wait for a credit card to close and I worry I could damage the SWG board if the cell is struggling and using the wrong amount of volts/amps.

You are probably safe to replace it.

  • Report all readings when you..
    • Move the switch from auto to off and check all of the readings.
    • Move the switch back to auto and recheck the readings.
    • Move the switch to off for a minute and then back to auto and recheck the readings.

Okay, (hopefully) last question for a while. I just ordered my replacement T-CELL-15. I ordered through Leslie's as it seemed they were $899 everywhere so figured I would get some rewards points to use later (and delivery seemed quickest). The one I ordered from Leslie's says it is a Hayward - Turbo Cell (T-CELL 15) Swimpure Plus (T-CELL-15-SWP). Is this going to be a problem as my system is an AquaRite Pro?

You need to be sure & verify the warranty of this cell as the swimpure version may have a 2 or 3 year warranty? Whereas the Hayward t15 has a 3 year.
Either will work with your aquarite pro system.

Thanks! It says 3 year warranty.
From your link, it sounds like I'm good. Thank you!
The Hayward T-Cell-15 and Hayward T-Cell-15-SWP are the same thing. The T-15 has 13 Titanium Plates, 150 x 63mm.

The T-Cell-15 has a 3 year warranty.

The Hayward T-Cell-15-SWP is a Swimpure branded cell, which has a 2 or 3 year warranty. You would need to verify with the seller to be sure.

I’m using the TCell 15 SWP with my Aqua Rite controller with no issues. I bought it from Leslies and it came with a 3 year warranty (confirmed when I registered it with Hayward).
