Testing the flow to my skimmer (pics)

I installed a Hayward skimmer and return last week. With only one return in my 32’ x 16’ rectangular pool I’m having a hard time positioning the return. I’m sure I really need another return on the opposite wall, but I’m going to try to adjust my return eye first. I cubbed up some floating foam, and tossed it in the pool! I have popcorn and an adult beverage, let the show begin! I may need to cut the pieces smaller. How long should I wait to see if this is successful?

LOL I use ping pong balls and the cats LOVED it!!

I would leave the pump running over a full 24 hours to see if any and how many go into the skimmer. Count them and do it again with the eyeball changed a little IF more than half of them are not in the skimmer.

Where were you yesterday when I was starring at these things willing them to move?!
My experiment was a failure. I watched my inch sized floaters slowly move to the side of the pool over about an hour. Then I cut them into 1/2 inch sized cubes, watched them migrate to the sides over 2 hours. Then I cut them into < 1/4 inch cubes and again watched them migrate to the sides and corners.
However, my husband decided to mow the yard while I was drinking in the afternoon and staring at the pool. When I checked my skimmer after two hours with the tiny cubes, my skimmer was full of grass clippings, pollen etc. I proceeded to clean my skimmer basket and sock 4 times in the next 4 hours! The cubes never made it to the skimmer, but my skimmer is obviously working. My husband has been sufficiently scolded for blowing grass into my pool.
This morning while checking my skimmer after a nasty storm last night 4 of the 9 tiny cubes were in the skimmer, the other 5 seem to have disappeared. I'm done with pool projects. My water is clear and safe, I'm ready to swim!

My husband has been sufficiently scolded praised for blowing grass into my pool showing me how good my skimmer and return works!

I'm done with pool projects. My water is clear and safe, I'm ready to swim!
