Stonescapes Mini Pebble Tahoe Blue With Added Black (Reverse Tahoe?)

Hi all! First time poster!

We just moved from DC to Arizona and are so excited to move into a house with a pool!! Well really our three boys are very excited. We never have owned a pool before, so there is lots to learn! Already I have appreciated this community so much!

So we are refinishing our pool and our PB uses NPT Stonescapes. We really want a deep blue pool, with no (or very minimal) green. The pool is in direct sun most of the day, and sits a little bit away from the house. We thought we wanted Midnight Blue mini pebble, but we are adding a Baja shelf, and don't think the midnight blue looks great on a shelf. So we have drifted back towards Tahoe Blue. We love the look of Tahoe on the shelf, but of course, it comes with the risk of sometimes having a tinge of green, and not being as rich a blue as midnight blue.

OK, all this to say, I have been scouring this page, and the internet, and I have seen references to other people having Tahoe Blue mini pebble and adding more black stones to get it a shade darker. I think one person called it 'Reverse Tahoe'. Does anyone have a picture of such a pool?! A picture seems really hard to come by!

We are very interested in Tahoe Blue, but hope to get it a little darker, and maybe steer it away from green. We welcome all thoughts!!

Because it has been so hard for me to find any pictures of such a pool... I promise to take lots and post them if we go this route!
 
Hi J, welcome!

When my husband and I were interviewing PBs, a few of them said that the darker, black & brown aggregates make for a greener-colored water. Keeping this in mind, we eventually chose StoneScapes aqua blue mini because we wanted just that - a very slight hint of green to our blue water. In reference to what you're saying about the stones, the difference between the aqua blue and aqua white in the StoneScapes line, is that the former has a higher percentage of darker stones than the aqua white. From all the pictures I saw, the aqua white wasn't green enough for me.

I see you're in Scottsdale. Have you gone to NPT in Tempe? I went there a couple times and one of the reps was really helpful. They might be able to tell you what the plasterers can do when mixing your finish. Also, you can have Tahoe on the shelf and Midnight throughout the rest of your interior... you just have to let your PB know your vision!! Good luck!

And thanks for the insights! We have visited the NPT showroom, and didn't get the best information, but perhaps it was just the time we were there and the person we talked to... maybe another visit is in order.

So we have been back and forth with our PB and he told us the Tahoe on shelf and Midnight everywhere else would be a large cost increase, so we steered away from that.

We really don't want green, so we think adding black to Tahoe counteracts that, but honestly we are just guessing. Scary!

I have nothing to add but am in the same boat as you. I've found a couple pictures of "reverse tahoe blue" online and it's exactly what we're looking for. We've already chosen Tahoe Blue but would also like it a little darker so based on this thread I've asked my PB about adding more black.
 
Update for anyone interested in Reverse Tahoe...

We tracked down the PB who has completed Reverse Tahoe and he was very kind and more than happy to share what they do. Bottom line, they reverse the gold and black ratios in the formula for Tahoe Blue. He shared with us the normal ratio is 4 bags gold to 1 bag black. And they literally reverse that so it is 1 bag gold to 4 bags black. I don’t know what else is in the Tahoe Blue ‘mix’ but he said they didn’t change anything else. Just the black and gold.

We we are gonna go for this! I will post pics when done!

did you PB charge extra to flip the ratio between black & gold?

I know you are looking at Tahoe Blue but I thought I would still share a video I made to show the Aqua White finish. I am getting a lot of compliments from people who have viewed my pool in person. The Aqua White is spectacular in person. The video is good but still does not capture it's complete beauty. So sorry didn’t see this! Yes I can post pics, but we won’t be home for another week. Did you make a decision?

We love our choice. It came out like we were hoping, dark water, but with a very natural looking Baja shelf. We also added Abalone shell.
 
j??? A SLAM? Did your water temp creep up on you? I had to do a short SLAM last Spring due to the same thing. I was not paying attention to how fast the water was warming up then BAM a slight cloudiness with at tint of green.

Your pool is beautiful! I love the color and I am interested in the Reverse Tahoe. I am not wanting any green, but more of a rich teal. Can you give me any insight? We also want to add the abalone shells. Does your water do temperature wise? We are in Texas and wonder how the water
temperature will be in the Texas heat?

So we are going through our first summer with the pool, and yes, the water temp got pretty warm. Although I don't have a good comparison because I am new to AZ, so it might be normal, or it might be a littler higher than normal. But I think any dark colors might make the water warmer. We have an aerator too, which we have been using to cool the water. Plus side, it stays warmer longer in the shoulder seasons!

The baja shelf is 9 inches of water. The rest of the pool in the picture is 3.5 - 4 ft deep. There is a deeper end where the pool goes off to the right off the pic, and it drops down to about 6.5ft. I can add some more pics if you'd like. Did you choose your color?!
