Spillway lip overhang recommended?

Saw this prior thread that was quite useful on providing a 1/4" cut under my stone to ensure that water doesn't dribble from my hot tub spillway down the wall and into the pool. My question is how big of an overhang is suggested. It's a 36" wide by 16" deep spillway. My issue is that I'm currently using a travertine tile that is about 5/8" thick. A tile is supported by the 16" depth, but then has (max) 2" of overhang. Once the 1/4" cut is there, it's already weakened and I'm concerned about the tile breaking at 2". Welcome any thoughts and opinions. Thanks in advance!

You should have used a thicker stone on the spillway.

You need to get the pool and spa running and see how the water flows over the spillway at various flow rates before cutting the notch.

Then if the notch is needed cut a notch that is less then 1/4” deep and see how it works.

It will take some experimenting to find the smallest notch that works for your design.

Oof - looks as well that the slant of the spillway is effectively "just about" level. I assume this will add issues and/or just require an even more powerful circulation setting? My intent is to have more of a sheer effect IMG_6875.jpeg

@AQUA~HOLICS what is your view on the way a spa spillway should be slanted?

My opinion is that the spillway is to be slanted towards the spa, this will help achieve keeping the spillway under water when the spa has no water being pumped into it. Secondary is that the spillway builds back pressure to help from having the spillway not maintain a laminar look, just one opinion .IMG_2168.png
