Spider valve gasket replacement

Our filter is leaking water out of the backwash pipe when it's in "filter" position. Pool store told me we need to replace the spider valve gasket.
However, there is no gasket inside. I heard from someone that some Hayward filters you have to buy the entire valve and replace that and that the gasket is inside of that. Is this true?

Post a pic of your MPV and filter so we see exactly what you have.

Top mount valve?
1.5" valve? - SP714T kit has the gasket and lid O ring.
2" valve? - SP715 kit has the the gasket and lid O ring.
You have to remove the screws holding the valve top on to access the gasket.

I'm guessing that white thing is the spider gasket and it's attached to the top?
It's glued in apparently. Any pointers on getting it out? (If that is the gasket)

Small screwdriver, small knife. It is glued, brittle, and will break. After cleaning all the pieces (don't leave anything in the groove as it will affect the new gasket), dry it out, then you will need a bit of an adhesive to glue in the new one or it won't stay in place. There are glues that can be used, like 3M weatherstripping adhesive, or even a silicone sealant. Don't fill the groove but put a few drops in each area that gasket goes into otherwise it will make a mess. Wipe off any excess that may get on the face of the gasket, let it dry, reinstall.

Remember to never change the valve position with the pump running. Also, pick a direction that you will always turn the valve, either clockwise or counterclockwise. Don't go to one position and then reverse to go back, go all the way around. Gaskets seem to have less issues if used this way. Hayward class on filters many years ago taught that.
