UPDATE: I just called Spa Electrics and they have just released a special version (R10H) that is designed as a DIRECT replacement for the colorlogic WHEN used in the shallow niche (LFGUY1000). Further, they can update the color sequence to be controlled by Omnilogic controls if you desire. I just ordered two.

R10H for Hayward Shallow niche only
R10 for any other niche

I can across this light recently while looking for an alternative to the Colorlogic 2.0 lights at $1250 each! It seems retrofitting niches with new LED lights can be a major hassle and the cost of them is atrocious.
Anyway, the R10 light has an ingenious built in adapter ring to fit a wide range of niches. Once the ring is installed, you can just pop the light module it. Another cool feature is that you use your EXISTING cable and adapt it to a plug they provide. If the light ever fails, just unplug the cable from the back of the light and replace. It looks good too and is UL listed. $600.

I don't have it yet as I'm trying to determine if this will fit in the SHALLOW Hayward LFGUY1000 niche. It looks like a slam dunk for any other niche.

Retro R10 — Spa Electrics Inc.

FWIW, the new hayward colorlogic 2.0 also has a plug end system, but for $1250, I would expect a 10 year warranty!

Thanks for pointing these new lights out.

Please update this thread if you get any experience with them.

Did you end up going with the Retro? Was thinking of going that route but heard mixed reviews

I am happy to report that I have installed 1 of 2 R10H into my shallow LFGUY1000 hayward niche. It installs wonderfully using the cable from the previous light. Time witall tell if it is durable buy it has a 3 year warranty and can be unplugged from the cable an replaced within 1 minute. The materials appear and feel high quality (dense hard plastic). I am attaching a few pics from my install, but there is only 1 light of 2 installed. Also, the colors sequence even matches up with hayward onmilogic app. Be sure to request the "programmed for Universal Colorlogic" option. I will try to update when I have my 2nd light in.

Where did you order from if you don't mind me asking?

i JUST ran across this brand today. My Jandy Watercolor has been sitting up on the deck for 3 weeks while I figure out whether I'm going to spend $2000 to have it replaced (and again when it breaks in 3 years) or just go without a light. Wifey says nay on no light. it's a focal point in our back yard at night.

I called the number on Spa Electric's website and bought direct from the North American office in Georgia. I am very happy with the lights so far. Very bright and easy to install. Replacement will take less than one minute and they sync up perfectly with omnilogic colors. If you have a deep niche, get the R10 (not R10H). Here is the photo with both lights installed:

I currently have 2 Hayward Color logic lights in the shallow LFGUY1000 hayward niche. Both lights have gone out and I cant see spending $2000 plus to replace them with the same light that will most likely go out in the next year. This Spa Electric R10H option looks promising as it is the only light so far that I have seen that works with the shallow niche. Question for you do these lights work with the standard Intermatic x100 transformer or do I also need to purchase the transformer from Spa Electric? I also have the Hayward ProLogic control panel that doesn't control the lights (switch to change colors) but they are wired together so that they do sync. Will this light also be able to be synced with just the switch powering on/off? what was the cost of these lights compared to the color logics?

I too had both of my Colorlogics go out. Was quoted $2500 plus tax for lights only and I would have to pull in the new cables. Yes, I have BOTH of mine on a single 100w intermatic transformer. The exact same one I was using before. Even under the basic / traditional omnilogic control, they work by turning power on and off to the transformer. So, it should like it work just fine for you. But ask the guys at Spa Electrics NA in Rome, GA and they will clarify. Cost was close to $500 per light and you use the old cable from your colorlogic. Good Luck!

Swimming Pool and Commercial Water Filtration Equipment has the lights as well. (vitafilters.com) Same price and same 3 yr warranty. If you use promo code WELCOME you can save 5% which comes out to @ $586. Will buy one this week to try out.
The positive from vitafilters is, if you don't want to pay the full price right away, you can do a PayPal 4 installments with no interest.
Also, Vita support said I can have them programmed however you like. It’s just the colors that get programmed, to match Hayward, Jandy, Pentair colors, etc.

I've also had a chat with Spa Electric's support because I wanted to know the difference between the Quantum and Retro series.
Here is the result from Spa Electric's support:
"between the Quantum or Retro Series, you would need the Retro. The Quantum is going to be for new builds. You just need to figure out which Retro you need based on the size of your existing lights. In the Retro Series, we have R10 (for 10in niches), the R8 (for 8in), and the R6 (for 6in). Pricing is below:"

R10C L12 R1 WMP (White Rim) - $616.87
R10C L12 R1 GMP (Grey Rim) - $616.87
R8C L12 R1 WMP (White Rim) - $616.87
R8C L12 R1 GMP (Grey Rim) - $616.87
R6C L12 R1 WMP (White Rim) - $442.76
R6C L12 R1 GMP (Grey Rim) - $442.76

"And you can place your order using this link whenever you are ready: www.spaelectrics.com/salesorder".

Good luck! Mine are still doing great. It was big plus that I got them programmed to match my Omni color sequence. I hope Vita follows through. By the way, it was low $500s like $510 or something. I had 2 lights so that was a bigger savings x2 for me.

Installation went well and fairly easy. Light was programmed for Jandy Aqualink and does change color. Just cycles thru each color until it reaches what you chose.light1.jpg

My Jandy lights are giving me problems again. I'm lucky to get a year out of them. First few were replaced under warranty but the last ones lasted long enough that now they will cost me. On the Spa Electric install, do you have to cut the Jandy wire chord and splice in their plug?

Nevermind, found the website and the manual seems to be well done. Cable gets a snip, snip!
