Has anyone out there used a product called SKIN to finish their pool? It is a new product our pool builder is excited to use on our pool...I have only been able to find good information about it, but not many have used it.

I have never heard of it. I don't really understand what it is or how it is applied. I would ask your PB for more information and to share what it is made of and how it is applied. With that information we will be able to give you a better answer.

4. How is SKIN Microplaster different from regular pool plaster?
SKIN Microplaster is made of micro-ceramics, created with the science of Basecrete, which is a proprietary bond coat for waterproofing surfaces susceptible to water penetration.
Unlike regular pool plaster that uses an admixture of white Portland cement, marble dust, and other additives, microplaster combines our patented dry compound and resin to create a thin but impermeable protective layer around the pool surface, both vertically and horizontally.
We offer more finishing styles, textures, and colors that may be hard to achieve with conventional plaster.

Those videos are a year or less old. There are no long term reports of how that finish holds up in different conditions. It may be great or it may not. No one knows. If you are the type to spend good money on bleeding edge products then let us know how it works out in a few years.

Nope! I wouldn’t do it. Everyone thought aquaBright’s ecoFINISH was going to be the next greatest pool surface technology ever … until it was no better than plaster and twice as expensive. And it could only be applied in limited circumstances and repaired by licensed applicators. The juice wasn’t worth the squeeze as they say.
Don’t be a guinea pig beta-tester for a pool builder that is trying to push a niche product for their own profit. This material sounds incredibly sketchy and you’ll be boxed into complete reliance on this one company. If they fold or decide to not support the product any longer, you’ll be screwed.

Maybe they will know about Skin Super-D-Duper MicroPlaster Resin with ceramics.
@Greg Kendall does the cost reflect this statement ? Or does it cost the same and the time saving / effective process only helps the PBs profit margin ?
I ask because if it was, let's say, $8k cheaper, you'd have a lot less to lose by trying it. A chunk of your first chipout/replaster would be covered if it needed it sooner than traditional plaster would.

You are assuming this product has the thickness of plaster and can be chipped out.
With it being based on Basecrete as its base with ceramics added I don’t think it is that thick and can be easily chipped out without damaging the gunite shell.
I think that is one of the long term risks of the product as to what can be put on top of it someday.

They’re basically swapping a full-thickness plaster (3/8” - 3/4” thickness) based on Portland cement with an admixture of quartz/polymers/aggregate for a much thinner (probably 3/16”) layer of a water barrier material that is epoxy resin, colorants and “ceramic materials” (probably just cheap sand … “ceramic” is a very loose chemistry term that encompasses a lot of different materials).
I think all the benefits of this finishing material accrues to the builder as he can do the application himself with a crew of cheap laborers and so he doesn’t have to pay for a plaster sub. What you get is a highly unknown and untested material and his “promise” that it will work and he will fix any issues. Unless he’s providing this finish at half the cost of traditional plaster, I wouldn’t risk it.

The product is fairly new, so you are taking a risk.
If the builder could give a "Real" 10 year warranty, it might be worth trying.
The warranty is only 5 years and there is no guarantee that anyone will be available to do any type of warranty coverage in 5 years.

BaseCrete is a fantastic product and is used on very high end all-tile pools. I might have missed it but I don't see how BaseCrete is connected with this Skin product?
I have a worn out pebble finish that this could be a good solution to smooth it out and refinish it...and I'm always up for experimenting. My last experiment didn't go so great though
