Simple Scoop by Pool Day

We are buying a house with a pool this Friday, I am a brand new in ground pool owner. I came across this website Simple scoop this is a product that advertises to replace all other chemicals other than sanitizer- Algaecide, oxidizer, clarifier, pH balancer, alkalinity balancer, and stain & scale inhibitor.
Does anyone have any experience with this product?

First I've heard of it but I can promise they all have copper staining if they didn't abandon it quickly.



The rashes from being unsanitary may have convinced them before the stains showed up.

All magic, but no rabbit..

You don't; normally need Algaecide, oxidizer, clarifier, Alkalinity balancer, etc...

You should read though our Pool School and find out what chemicals pools actually need..

The irony of all these algae control products are if you use them, and forgo the chlorine like they say, then you need the algae control products. Unless any of them deploy a tent over the pool, your battle is with the sun.

It burns off up to 4 ppm FC daily, maybe even 5 in TX, and you need to replace it daily plus some wiggle room in order to be sanitary. Algae while harmless is the canary in the coal mine and if it can grow, so can the bacteria, viruses and pathogens that are the real concern. If you're sanitary in the first place, BOOM, no algae.

6) Aluminum chloride (possibly Aluminum chlorohydrate, which is what is in HTH Green to Blue).

I was in the same position not too long ago. You'll do great if you make TFP your sole source of pool information. Read my words now, believe them later.

You'll rarely need anything other than liquid chlorine (like unadulterated bleach), muriatic acid, cyanuric acid, calcium chloride, baking soda, and boric acid (or borax).

Check the cyanuric acid right away. If they've been using chlorine pucks, you'll most likely have to do a partial drain and refill because the cyanuric acid will be too high. Better to do that before you dump time, effort, and chemicals into trying to balance unsalvageable water.

Stay far away from it.

I knew nothing about pools, read up on pool school here on TFP, bought a TF-100 kit, balanced my water and never looked back. TFP is the cheapest, most effective way to keep a sparkling clean (sanitized!) pool, trust it!

This product doesn’t replace chlorine. It is intended to be used with your sanitizer.

In that case its pretty useless since theres no need for anything other than the chlorine.

I also knew nothing about pool chemistry. I read Pool School several times and took notes. The pool got built, I bought a TF-100 test kit, balanced my water and have solved every situation with the help of Trouble Free Pool. I recommend having liquid chlorine (from hardware & big box stores) on hand plus the other chemicals mentioned earlier. Celebrating 10 YEARS with no need to ask a pool builder or pool supplies store for help keeping the water clean and sparkling. Enjoy!

wow, time to go cancel my subscription! just joined and reading thru a bunch of the other posts and the pool school, i am doing all the things wrong. using this stuff, chlorine tabs, test strips with an app. exactly 1 month in and things are starting to change. going to follow the advice in here for sure! going to switch over to the liquid form, should i abandon the tabs completely or can i drastically reduce the amount i have in the pool at one time until i have run out of them?

Depends on whats in the tabs. If theres copper in them, you dont want any more.

I never owned a pool before my current home, and I am so grateful for finding the TFP website …. 6 years in, and I 1) never pay to have our pool opened or closed, 2) have a handful of chemicals total to balance anything that needs adjusting, 3) UNDERSTAND what may be off based on different situations (storms, pool draining, et ), and 4) can just look at my pool water now and know if something is off at all (it comes with practice!).

Essentially: don’t bother with gimmicks, just follow this site and you will be both more knowledgeable about your pool in the long and short run, and able to troubleshoot before things ever get out of hand.
