I’m replacing my pump with a 2HP Black & Decker VSP and would appreciate advice on plumbing configurations. The numbers below correspond to numbers on the picture of my set-up.
A. My plan is to move the pump toward the front to line it up with the pipe coming out of the pad and replace the 2 90’s (at area “1”) in the picture with a single sweep elbow going down to connect with the pipe coming out of the pad.
Should I put a union at area “6” on pipe coming out of pad? I’m concerned if I don’t then when I have to replace the pump in the future there will be insufficient pipe coming out of pad to attach to.
Any ideas on why the previous owner or installer used 2 90’s here and didn’t just line up the pump and go straight down like I’m planning to do?
B. I’m planning to replace the 90 at area “4” with a sweep elbow. Any ideas on why the 3 couplers were used at area “5”?
C. I’m planning to replace the T at area “2” with a sweep elbow. I like having the garden hose faucet at this location so I can easily relieve pressure before opening up the filter encasement, and also to drain the pool when we have heavy rain to prevent overflow. So to keep the faucet I’m planning to put a 3 port diverter valve between the new sweep elbow and the filter (at area “3”). The diverter extra port would go to the faucet.
Any thoughts/comments would be greatly appreciated.
