Hello everyone!
We're new to pool maintenance and are looking for some advice on resurfacing our pool. Here’s the situation:
Our pool is currently empty, and we've given it a thorough power wash with water and chlorine. However, there's still some old paint residue left. We’re now looking to resurface the pool, but we want to keep it budget-friendly while still being durable. We’ve ruled out tile due to the high cost and are considering painting with Pebble Tec.
We have a few specific questions:
  1. Preparing the pool for Pebble Tec: Can Pebble Tec be applied directly to the surface, even with some old paint residue still visible? What’s the best way to prepare the surface for application?
  2. Special considerations: Are there any special tips or considerations when working with Pebble Tec to ensure a good result?
  3. Alternatives: Is Pebble Tec the best option, or are there more cost-effective alternatives, like epoxy paint, that would still provide good durability and performance?
Any advice or experiences you could share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Monica

Can you elaborate on what “paint” was used and what pebble tech product you are asking about? Generally any kind of paint is a very short lifespan product. Pebble tech is traditionally more like a plaster with aggregate.

Any kind of real paint needs to be completely stopped off before a new finish is applied or it just won’t last very long.

There are two ways that will last you a while:
-Replaster-make sure they chip out all of the old plaster.
-Vinyl liner-You can put a liner over the plaster. You will have to put in a liner track. Finding someone that can measure for the new liner may be your biggest hurdle.
