Scale, CSI, Scaletech

Ok, I've decided to go the way of borates. I'm going to need 50-75lb to get my pool 30-50ppm. I went to DudaDiesel site- if I buy 2- 55 lb tubs or 4- 25 lb bags, calculated with tub shipping and per pound, the price is identical. I would imagine the tubs are easier for storage, but are there any other thoughts either way? Is the unused portion better in a bag for longevity or does it make any difference?
Thanks.

Yep. Tubs. My boric acid sits in the garage. Very easy to store a tub in the corner and the top has a tight snap on lid with a gasket seal to keep the product safe. It takes a lot of force to remove the lid so I feel fine with kids in the house. Bags can degrade and rip. You can reuse the empty tub (it's about 10 gallons) for other purposes.

OK, so I went with the borates. They've been in about 2 weeks, I posted my latest test numbers below. This is what I don't quite understand - I thought the borates were supposed to decrease my acid demand. Once added, now my pH is jumping up to 8.0 from 7.6 almost every week, requiring me to add acid every week. My TA is 70. This seems like more acid than I had to add previously. How's it helping me? Do I need to make other adjustments?
Thanks.

I have borates in my pool, keep a TA around 60. I've found that my pH rises to around 7.8 and just stays there for some time, often a couple weeks, then one day it jumps up to 8.0 or even above. It takes a good dose of MA to knock it back down to about 7.6. It then rises once again rather quickly back to 7.8, where it sits again for some time.

Using borates doesn't reduce the amount of acid I use, it just allows me to go much longer between additions. Borates act as a buffer, making it more difficult for the pH to move in either direction.
