After closing I decided to look at my old Intex sand filter. It didn’t dawn on me that it has laterals while the one the came with my pool doesn’t. The Intex sand filter has the same specs as the larger one as far as flow rate goes and uses 10lbs less sand. It also has a better MPV which doesn’t fit the opening of the new one.

I’m thinking of switching to the Intex sand filter. Any reason why it wouldn’t work? I really wasn’t impressed with the HydroTools filter.

Edit. Forgot to mention I will be upgrading to this pump.

If your upgrading the pump to something that of an industry standard, you might as well upgrade the intake and returns to 1.5" PVC as well to take advantage of the pumps capability.

Did what I should have done at the onset . . . Researched the TFP Wiki. Turns out the filter pump combo that came with the pool was slightly undersized at 14” and .75hp. Using a smaller filter wasn’t going to solve anything. I ordered a Jacuzzi 16” sand filter with a 1hp dual speed pump.

There’s not a lot out there for above grounders that isn’t ridiculously priced. I found a decent deal for a 19” 1hp single speed. Talked to them and they refused to upgrade to a dual speed. I would have bought them separately but they didn’t offer them separately. Go figure.

The whole intex type setup, equipment included, can be found on clearance for $300 ish for the larger pools. I remember a member getting a 12 ft for $79.

They're utterly awesome for what they are and letting people get into the floating game on the cheap, but even the better/bigger equipment leaves alot to be desired.

I have no problem using Intex
I didn't dig on their equipment if you took it that way. :) I was just making the point that there's only so much they can offer at a price point that doesn't dwarf the initial pool investment.

With 7k gallons you're fortunate that their bigger stuff may meet your needs, swgs included. But many with the larger pools can't do the same and either have to deal with the drawbacks being undersized, or spend big on traditional equipment.

I took it as you intended it. We picked up a small Intex pool when the grandkids were short and used it for two seasons. Their SWCG rated for 15k is what I’m using now.
