Rotation Direction of Pump Motor

I just replaced the capacitor on my 1hp Century pump. I took several pictures of the three wires that connect to the capacitor in order to connect the new capacitor correctly. When I turned on the motor, the rear assembly of the motor was rotating counter clock wise, and making a racket. It also looked like the wet end of the Haywood SuperFlo was getting water pushed back into it. I may have changed the two yellow wire connectors backwards.

As I look at the motor shaft from the back, what direction should it be turning?

Looking at the back of the motor, it should be spinning clockwise. More than likely, you swapped one of the wires.

When replacing components, it is a usually good idea to move one wire at a time to the new component rather than disconnecting all of them at once to avoid issues like this.
 
The wiring appears to be correct. Did you change anything else?

The centrifugal switch looks to be pretty corroded. If the contacts are not making a good connection, the motor may not start in the correct direction.

The audio sounds like it could be interference somewhere.

Have you tried removing the motor/impeller assembly from the wet end and then turn on the motor?

Also, can you take a VIDEO and post it of the back end of the motor while it is running?

Make sure that the governor, the metal object with the springs, is free to rotate and does not hit anything.

It's spinning CW. My next step will be to take it off the wet end and look for any obstructions. If that draw's a blank, maybe I'll need a new motor...hope not...

The other thing to check is the governor and make sure everything is freely moving. When the motor spins up, the weights should move apart disconnecting the switch but you can try that manually too.
 
I took the wet end off. Nothing clogging the impeller. I cleaned one side of the copper switch contacts, started the motor, still the clacking noise from the regulator. nothing obstructing it. discharged the capacitor so I could spin the regulator around, seemed ok. started the motor again, it hummed for a couple of seconds, I hit it and it started, still clacking. turned it off, turn it on again, it just hums, even after I hit it. I turned the impeller a few twists, does not run......

What is the input voltage?

Is the voltage selector switch set correctly?

Note: Do not apply 240 volts when the voltage selector switch is set to 120 or you will destroy the motor.
 
I tried to start the motor again. It just hummed....I used a screw driver to turn the impeller several times. It started to "run" then shut off after about 30 seconds.

I just turned the motor over. Here is the bottom. I've had this motor at 9 years.
