Replace old diving board

Hi All,
I have a diving board - 22 years old and is done. Tripod in concrete is in good shape and if I can find a new base and board, I'd easily replace it myself (I take it into my shed each fall - base and board - easy to do). Problem is, I can't find a base that will fit my current tripod and going to a new tripod has lots of costs and hassles. There must be a way to get a base that fits my current tripod, right? Any help on this?

Here are some specs - can anyone help on this? --

Diving Board – Triac Industries – Ser. # 105180901

71.5 L
16.5 W
2.5 D
  • Tripod distance between bolts –
  • 9 1/8 (front bolt closest to pool to each rear)
  • 10 9/16 (between 2 rear bolts furthest from pool)
Thanks for any help you have to offer!

Jeff

Triac is an old brand owned by Latham since 2002 and I honestly don't know any distributors that still carry their products. You can try Latham customer support and see if they can help you locate a distributor. You may be better off though replacing with an SR Smith product. A Flyte Deck diving board is going to be a close match dimensions-wise.

Thanks! I found that out in my research. Thing is, I can't find any base that fits the dimensions of my tripod. Finding it hard to believe there is not something out there that would fit. Simplest solution. Hoping someone here might have a resource or way to find this.

Remove the board and base and take some pictures of the bolts and make a drawing with dimensions and then send this to SR Smith to see if they can help.

Worst case, you can cut off the old bolts and install new bolts with a bolt kit.

Thanks for the reply. Tried that and S.R. Smith could not help. Said they do not have a base that fits those dimensions. I'm aware of the cutting bolts and using bolt kit option but then it requires cutting into the concrete to reconnect to the electrical bonding wire and this is a lot more time and expense. My town requires permit, bonding, inspection if I am not sticking with current tripod. So, you can see it gets much more complicated if I do not use same tripod. Possible - but time consuming and more expensive. I may call Smith again and see if maybe there is an option - maybe different rep!

Can you post the drawing and dimensions?

James - from my original post:

  • Tripod distance between bolts –
  • 9 1/8 (front bolt closest to pool to each rear)
  • 10 9/16 (between 2 rear bolts furthest from pool)
Is that enough info? No drawing but I describe layout of tripod and distance between bolts. Single apex of triangle is closest to pool and the other two (base of triangle) is furthest from pool edge. Thanks for hanging with me on this.

I would just cut off the old bolts and put in new bolts.

I don't know if this requires bonding or not.

If it does, then you might need to cut out a section of concrete and install a new Jig.

Old bolts are usually rusted and yours might be bad anyway.

Have you confirmed that the bolts are in good condition?

What is the distance "S" from the front bolt to the water?

Thanks again James. See above. I’m aware of those options. Trying to avoid. New bolts require cutting concrete, permits and bonding and inspection. If I can find a base/board that fit this tripod - simple switch out. Bolts are in good condition. I coat with Vaseline every year. Triac/Latham do not make boards anymore. Will need to call around. Any ideas of best place to help me track this down?

In my opinion, using the bolt kit is fine.

Even if you have to replace the jig, I don't think that a permit and inspection are required.

Note: This is only an opinion and not advice or a recommendation.

Follow all local codes.

You also have to match the front bolt setback from the water.

So, it is not as easy as finding a base that will fit.

Are you sure that you really want a diving board or can you live without it?

If you really need to have the board, then you will probably need to install either new bolts or a new jig because I doubt that you will find a suitable replacement.

Spoke to my town - permits and bonding, inspection definitely required if I do not use the same exact jig. May do without a board. Very hard to find compatible base for my jig. Did not think that would be the case.
