I have a Hayward Model SP2610X15 pump with a 1 1/2HP Century Model UST1152 motor. This weekend the motor was making a grinding noise, like a bearing was acting up. The pump/motor is over 10 years old, and still working but I would like to replace it before it just fails on me. The question is, do I replace only the motor or the entire assembly (pump and motor)? Second question, if I only should replace the motor, can I put in a 1 HP motor instead? If so, would the direct replacement be a Century Model UST1102?
My pool is only 13K gallons, not sure why a 1 1/2HP motor is on the pool system anyway, this is the way it came when I purchased the house. I have solar panels and don't pay anything for electrical usage, so replacing the motor with an identical 1 1/12HP motor wouldn't be an issue.
