Hello! I just installed a hayward h135id01 propane heater. Right now I have it hooked to a WIFI outlet and when power is restored it starts up in same mode. I was concern if this would damage the heater (having the power go on and off) I found the remote option kit in my unit but had a few questions on remote hookup. So far Im thinking 2 options...

1st Way -Using a Dry Contact (Looking for matter version for smartthings). But that would just be able to turn it on/off? Not sure quite how this would work.
2nd Way-Hooking up a thermostat?? (that way I can have on/off and temp control as well). (would it connect like a heat pump? white/Red etc?

When you shutdown power to the heater to cut heat, you also shut down the blower to clear the system of gases.

You should be able to connect a Sonoff TH Origin Smart Temp... to the 2-Wire remote connection on the heater using the Sonoff's dry contacts. The Sonoff gets temps from a temperature probe inserted into a thermowell in the plumbing. My set up uses an older version of the switch that doesn't have dry contacts or historical data.

I forgot to mention, there are different versions of the switch including amp ratings and display options. They're available on Amazon and elsewhere.
Agree. This is why I didn't want to power the whole unit off via smart outlet. I love the dry contact/temp probe. I have been looking at new ones. I really want then to integrate with smartthings and or smartlife. Does sonoff have its own software for these. I see my unit common is 24v any of these switch van be powered that way? I have some old relays that's I was using for my garage door opener. (Via konnected) I might just hook this up and test out.

Sonoff uses the Ewelink app. I like it, although I do most of my programming through Alexa routines. I do like the dashboard that I have set up for all of my pool switches.

I have seen people here flash Sonoff devices with a different control app. Can't remember what it's called but it starts with a "T".

Here's a screenshot of my dash. 1-4 are actuators, 5-8 are pump speeds, Pool Temp is my Sonoff TH16, and SWG is just a Sonoff Basic R3 switch powered by 230 volts.

Look Like Ewelink is able to link with smartthings so I should be good!
One other quick question on the Heater side, since Im using the remote option do I have to put my heater in a bypass mode?? I assume with dry contact an "open" will enable the firemans switch and my heater will go to Lo Mode and closed will operater as normal.. The manual does say anything about this, but I have read other posts that mention this.

Thanks again!

My heater is a bit different than yours. I set my heat on the panel to 104 degrees and the Sonoff switch takes over control of the call for heat.

See Page 17 of your manual...assuming I have the right one...

Yes-you have the correct one!
I saw the "bo" option IF you are using a remote thermostat. (your example setup with temp probe is my future goal). I have a relay right now, I just wanted to test open/close across Orange (Pool) and white (24V). So keep what my pool is set up as is on the unit itself (this example 80 degress)
Open state: Turns off the heating function but other functions remain on LCD on unit. (goes it "lo" mode like the water pump isnt on)
Closed state: pump will work as normal.

In short do I set it to "bo" if not using a remote thermostat?

Doesn't everyone have the junk box of MISC cables and components?? LOL
